Yes, Mike's family are from Nong Hai, 10 km from Ban Dung and 2 km from our home. His folks had a grocery shop for a while, a market with his name emblazened across the top tried to open but failed due to a lack of customers.

He doesn't go home often what with the folks dead and wives all over the place, but he's seen him occasionally, charging along in his pick-up.

I just think his voice has no power compared to Ponsak's, but I always liked this number.

Ah lakorn cheewit classic, I think it was his first hit then his next 3 albums did nothing so he got an ultimatum for the 5th if that did no good that would be it. Luckily that was the one with the khon Jon song on it and he never looked back. Does Siriporn live near you? Not seen her for a while now her touring stopped, her show was one of the best

Ram wong, a style put together in the 1940;'s by the then PM and his wife to bolster Thai nationalism. Died in popularity by the mid 50's but still hangs on. Note the dance gals with the numbers that you pay to dance with, this is Os 4s looking like a famous Brit comic from the 40's Max Miller. The dance style is a bit dull for my taste- round and round the garden like a teddy bear!

Seen him at Tankey Issan and her with Jin in Pattaya and veteethai The only singer I have not seen that I want to is Rose Surin. I think Siriporn is in her late 20's on that cover. She's very professional, never late, very religious too.

It will all end in tears- the father of her 2 sons religiously attended her concerts, a rich dude from Phetburi, always offering to help in any way, turned out he was already married and wouldn't leave his wife.

She should have married me when I was a poor teacher first in Thailand 25 years ago, at least nothing would have changed!

She's a wonderful singer, I'll never forget her concert at Wat Inn ,Samsen road near Banglampoo, Bangkok just after Pumpuang, the queen of Thai country had died back in 1992. A woman in the audience shouted out for โลกของผึ้ง one of Pumpuang's favourite songs. She sang it unaccompanied, perfect pitch, the crowd were completely silent. Oh I wish I had a recording of that rendition.

She used to ring us up at one time, her biography is quite sad, she met her husbands mai noi and found out they were both pregnant, at least that's as I remember it, but he may have been married first. She sent us a message today on facebook, she's very happy even if it does not last. he's a lucky bloke anyway and she deserves a bit of happiness. I think Thais take her for granted a bit as she's been around so long

Apparently she was singing in a concert in Phetburi and the wife of the lover and father of her 2 kids appeared at the front of the stage and started shouting abuse at her. She said she hadn't t known he was married until then. Then she gave him an ultimatum and he decided to stay with his wife.

Did you ever get to see Honee Sri issan? she died in 1992 as well a few months before I first came here, wonderful singer and dancer.

She had a massive hit with the enclosed number in 1991, there were huge expectations, but her second album was disappointing. But that year,1992 was terrible, Honey Sri Issan was killed when her van crashed late at night coming back from a concert in Surin, she was so young

And then Pumpuang died at the age age of 33 in June.

Plus there had been 'Black May' with Sujinda and Jamlong in May.

But this song is a classic.

That's a bit different to the Su story in the book then and more dramatic, but then Jintara 'forgot' she was even married. Do you know anything about Pumpuangs second husband Kraisorn? His son nong Phet is estranged from him and has accused his of all sorts of abuse. K has his Pumpuang concert on June 13 at Wat Trap Kaddan Phet has his on Ekami. Never met K but her son is very nice, speaks English as well. They missed K out of the recent film, her first husband was shot dead by her brother in the Dusit Thani car park. He had an affair with her sister, brother did 5 years.

Illiterate, forced to leave school after second year primary to help cut sugar cane, yet she could remember the words to over 150 songs.

And what a voice! One minute could break your heart, the next have you dancing.

I remember when she was sick with lupus there were plenty of stories about Kraisorn not even visiting her in hospital because he had a piece of tail in Chiang Mai. Not being able to read, she didn't know how much land she owned, how many cars she had. Kraisorn certainly had a lot of bad press as a cheating bit actor, out for her money.

I think the rift later with his son was about the inheritance, Kraisorn said there was nothing left which upset Phet, not surprisingly, but his behaviour has hardly been upstanding over the years.

Forget the pair of them, here's to Pumpuang, the girl from nowhere who came to be loved and admired by millions for her voice and struggles, a peasant whose cremation at the tragic age of 33 was presided over by King Rama 9's daughter, Princess Sirindhorn herself.

HRH wrote her a song as well- Som Tam. Phet accused his dad of abusing him. I have seen three of her sisters sing and they are not bad at all, don't seem that popular with the crowds though. I used to like Yui yatt Yerr singing her songs when she was younger.

Bkk don't listen, well tomorrow it will be packed at Rama 2 for Ying lee concert and sat is anniversary of fan tv at Prapredeng, put on by Grammy gold. Although there are less concerts about these days luktung has never been more popular. Here is quite a rare film of luktung from 30 years ago. Somewhere, next part maybe he says luktung will never be as popular as Thai Sakhon! Pop and string are more popular with the young though, especially K pop (yuk)

The son of Surapon is in this film, some interesting bits in the whole thing.

Last taxi I got into on Friday he had waipot on then chai mun cing, never heard a taxi playing string yet!

Jenpop the founder of 95 fm and music historian wrote a book a few years back with the biogs of about 60 singers. The only one he described as a 'genius' was Chalempon Malekham, going a bit far maybe but this song, Job loy, is a great favourite with fans. Time to have a listen to Pornsak then bedtime!
