As Aldous Huxley said, 'There are things we know and things we don't know and in between there are doors'

One of the things I don't know is how rgs can like The Sweet. Perhaps one day I'll understand, maybe meditation or even medication would help.

In the meantime guitar work like this can help me from reelin in the years

One of the things I don't know is how rgs can like The Sweet.

Can be summed up in 3 words, In Your Town.

At least The Sweet were accessible, we saw them on telly, heard them on the radio, they toured, we could go see them live.

Other bands of the same genre, Mott The Hoople, Slade, Roxy Music, David Bowie, Status Quo, Thin Lizzy, and not forgettin Rory himself.

I remember years ago the Hippies getting a hardon coz Bob Dylan was touring The UK for the first time in 12 years, LOL.

Floyd and Zeppelin had long since escaped The Uk for tax reasons and never toured in your town, always some place like Knebworth.

When Rory toured, I could go watch him live at four different venues locally and never see the same show twice.

I see your point rgs about bands that stay close to their fans, I think it partly depends on the type of music, Rory's music, as is most music you admire or post, was essentially live, and thanks for posting that clip of him in Japan- wish I had been a roadie! whilst The Floyd, for example, were more about conveying a mood or experience, there was no need for audience inter-reaction, more a case of audience absorption,

Lennon, who I've always preferred much more to McCartney, actually said he hated performing live, the message could be put across in a record better for him but on the other hand, there's Macca still on the road today. rock takes many forms

One man's meat is another man's poison.

Anyway, untimely death is on my mind today- has it ever happened to you? someone you never expected to be gone is suddenly dead, an ex-student, 23 years old, doing well after graduating at Kasetsart and with a good job, was killed in a taxi which lost control in the rain on Saturday in Phetburi province. Beautiful, clever, yet modest, her life gone in a flash.

This song by Pongsit is about the senseless violent death of a young man with a promising future.

Apart from his unusual guitar tunings, his voice has a warmth, timbre and texture that is unique to him. I don't think anyone should really try to 'cover' his songs though I know some do- a bit like doing a John Martyn 'cover'- not really possible!

Nick Drake - At the Chime of a City Clock [1970]

Getting a greenie, not for the music, but for the vinyl porn

Makes me want to get back to the Uk and fire up my Linn.

Watched a prorramme on the telly the other day, vinyl sales in the UK are now up to 2 million per year from a low of 200,000 about 10 years ago.

Proving what I knew all along, vinyl rules, CD sux.

BN @ post 6216, we have had this conversation before.

Live music for me, everyday of the week, warts and all.

Contrast and compare,

Or this sterile crap,

Amazing really when you think about it, The Beatles NEVER toured with Sgt Peppers, they couldnt re create live what was done in the studio.

One of the best selling rawk albums of all time, UFO, LOL, recorded in the studio.

imo rgs, rock n roll and blues are especially open to live performances because of the possibilities of improvisation, not always so easy for complicated pieces or conversely single guitarists,

I remember Robert Plant answering a reporter's question about why he didn't sing 'Stairway to Heaven' anymore and he answered you can only sing a song so many times before the meaning starts to fade away. Too much precision can make Jack a dull boy, they say The Eagles, still touring now and then, prepare meticulously, note for note for their concerts- it sounda the height of boredom but perhaps the well heeled audience enjoy a flawless show.

Rory irrepressible as always, firing on all 4 cylinders
