Sad to hear of lots of crime in Pattaya. On my first evening in Pattaya I was walking along the beach road and got spat at by a Thai girl. I like the town in many ways but sorry it's not real 'Thailand'.

Pattaya truely is the cesspool of Thailand.

Thank you for your thoughts, further PDS generalization flames will not be welcome.

Singer Beaten Up in Robbery

A well-known pop singer is now in stable condition after being injured in what is believed to be a robbery attack in Pattaya.

Twenty-nine-year-old singer Ben Chalatit was rushed to Chonburi's Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital after he was found beaten up and lying unconcious near Central Festival Pattaya department store in Bang Lamung district, where the singer earlier attended a party.

Ben's entire body was bruised and he needed seven stitches for a facial wound. He has already checked out of the hospital.

Muang Pattaya police officials have questioned the singer's mother Rotsukon Tantiwut about the attack. She told the police that Ben was getting a motorcycle taxi to return to his hotel, but was assaulted before arriving there and regained consciousness in hospital.

She went on to say his belongings, which included 20,000 baht in cash, a mobile phone, a Rolex watch and ATM card and credit cards were all stolen.

Police believe the incident was a robbery and arrested the motorcycle taxi driver as suspect. The man confessed to punching the singer in the face but denied stealing his belongings.

Something is just not jelling about this story...a supposed Thai "superstar" musician taking a moto-taxi to return to his hotel at 03:30 after some sort of party at Central Mall...and gets bashed and robbed by the moto driver?

Me thinks it more likely that he had words with some other toffs at the party and they (or more likely their hangers-on) did or arranged for this beating. If reports of the severity of the attack are true, it was definitely something personal and not just a run-of-the-mill robbery.

Khun Chalathit was seen arriving on the back of a motorbike which was being driven by a foreign man.

The motorcycle taxi driver was merely defending his patch from the foreign invader and the customer got in the way. He re-arranged the scene of the crime to look like a robbery when he realised his mistake of hitting the wrong person. :whistling:

This guy seems to have had it coming. Another case of a HI-SO acting like a spoiled baby? And then "forgetting" what happened? Here's a quote:

He jumped off and appeared animated as if he was angry or possibly intoxicated

According to a local motorbike taxi driver, Khun Wichai aged 41, who was detained by Police, he was approached by Khun Chalathit, who appeared to be looking for a fight and attempted to hit Khun Wichai, who moved to the side and then struck Khun Chalathit, in self-defense according to his statement.
