Wendy's has a pretty killer salad bar.

James for milk shakes go to BK in Emporium.

Yeah I'm sure biscuits & gravy will sell real big here - LOL.

I guess I could eat at BK - but Bar B Q Sandwich King is just sooooooooooooooo much better.

I recall there being a Popeye's in The Mall Bangkapi around 95 or so. It was right across from the KFC near the main entrance, LOL. Around that same time, there was the Wendy's on the ground floor of MBK and even a Taco Time in Siam Square too.

I used to loooove going to Taco Time and was surprised that it came to BKK (its a regional fast food Mexican chain from the western US).

Just a question out of curiosity for the "old-timers" commenting here...

When you guys were frequenting these places back in the day.... was it all or mostly a farang clientele?.

Or did they manage, even back some years ago, to attracted a mixed/Thai customer base...

Also, I noticed, a couple of you have been TV members since 2003/04

Does that mean the places like Wendy's and Popeye's were here post 03-4?? As recent as that??? Or did they all die out earlier, like as someone mentioned, during the Asian financial meltdown of the late 90s???

Amazing I lived the largest part of my life on the west cost of the US and never heard of TACO TIME until this thread. I can believe that they did not last long in Thailand as according to their web site they want 2 million USD for a franchise. That's about 64 million baht.

Taco time is fairly well known in Canada, I think it is a Canada chain. I would be surprised if it was in Thailand though.

From what I could remember it was considerably better than Taco Bell, in fact when Taco Bell finally showed up in my city, I was horrified by how crappy and how small the portions were at Taco Bell. This isn't to say Taco time was great, but much better than Taco Bell.

Taco Time is more like real Mexican food, but REALLY lousy Mexican food. Taco Bell is not really Mexican food, it is a type of fast food with some things in common - it is not trying to replicate the real thing. However Taco Bell tastes much better.

Fast Food...:bah:

Does Thailand really need more OBESE people.....?

They should ban these kind of food outlets; it's killing it's children and bring them to early diabetes and all kind of other diseases.

Where ever these joints pop-up -in ANY country- you see a dramatic increase in obese kids; how horrible and sad. :(

EDIT:

On Thursday, officials of the federal health agency reported that one out of 5 teenagers in the United States has high level of cholesterol in their blood. The report proved to be an evidence for the increasing obesity rate among teenagers of the most powerful economy.According to a nationally representative survey of blood test results in American teenagers, the rate of teenagers from 12 to 19 who bear abnormal obesity is 20 percent. Meanwhile, 43 percent is the obesity rate among adolescents.

They should ban everything other than steamed vegetables and brown rice, but they are not going to. Pad Thai has been named as one of the least healthy dishes in the world, so maybe they can start with that.

..that might be true but I can't imagine Thai kids getting Obese from Pad Thai, are they ?

Fast Food as such is dangerously fattening and also very unhealthy; but, of course, I understand that the fast food chains are too powerful now to have their kind of food completely stopped and/or banned.

Until the costs of the health care system are going through the roof and the "system" can't cope with it anymore and governments will implement steps to control the fast food industry in order to decrease the cost of health care.

Are you joking!!??!! Unhealthy food is unhealthy food. PERIOD. Doesn't matter if the dish is western or Thai. I can't even believe rational people could see it any differently.

I can't believe anyone would want the government picking winners & losers concerning what food you choose to buy & eat.

Simple choice I guess. Liberty & personal responsibility versus Marxist nanny state.

LOL @ socialists who want to tell me how to live my life.

BUTT OUT.

I got food poisoned from Wendys, Popeye's and Burger King in the states in my past but even after eating at MCD 5000 times I never got poisoned from them. There's a reason why they are the biggest fast food chain in the world by far. You won't see Wendys come back here I dont think but it would be a good thing. Churches? no way, they are great but they won't get here. Arbys is horrible. I'll take a White Castle but that aint going to happen

I worked at MickyD's as a kid, and say what you want about the calories of marketing to kids, there quality control is really second-to-none amongst the fast food places.    I think most people would be surprised at how much QC goes on at each one and eve how much food gets tossed due to it being in the bin too long (the QC is an ongoing problem in its expansion into China--the culture there seems adverse to some of the QC measures such as throwing out food.)

I still like Wendy's burgers better, but Jack-in-the-Box and Carl's Junior/Hardees are even better than that, in my opinion.

I had a friend who tried to get teh Wendy's franchise for Thailand some time back, but he was outbid.

Bonobo, re Wendy's, did you mean outbid for their original venture here (which subsequently failed), or did you mean for some subsequent bidding??

Do we know, is there a franchise holder for Wendy's in Thailand now, regardless of the fact they don't have any open shops at present???

Silly to think the Thais would want any Americans involved in launching a hamburger chain here... After all, what do we know about hamburgers... :whistling:<_<

A lifetime of Liberty & personal responsibility life-style choices and when you maybe have heart, lung, and/or liver failure, etc. the Government (Medicare) gets to pick up the bill...

... as in the South Carolina war-cry "Keep your government hands off my Medicare."

Not joking; I agree.

I was talking about obesity -can't you read ?- and I've never seen a Thai becoming obese from Pad Thai.
