Robinsons Sugar Free Cordial

Hi,

Until the last couple of weeks you used to be able buy the Robinsons Sugar Free fruit squash/cordial from Tops/Gourmet Market etc. However I notice that none of them stock it now, instead it has been replaced by some 'Bickfords' pap.

Does anyone know of anywhere in BKK that still stocks it?

Thanks.

When Thai stores notice that there is a run on certain Western food items, they seem to discontinue them as soon as possible. This has been true for a long, long time.

we used to buy vegetable baguettes at Tesco Lotus Pitsanulook.

maybe we bought too much of them so they don't make them any more........just like you said!

they were so nice, good price and small so we could put a lot into the upper deep freeze.

suppose they weren't sweet enough for Thai citizens.......

:whistling:

Another big problem is that old hands realize this, so anything special gets bought up immediately - some shoppers will buy every item on the shelf - and if the store orders it again, it will be months before you see it. It is very difficult to get that soft Australian black licorice here because of this (but they get tons of the rasberry which no one seems to want).

If you are concerned for the health and weight (which is probably why you have been eating them), you would be better off without them.

"Sugar-free" products usually contain aspartame nowadays... which has been linked to weight gain and other problems.

Record, Senate, Page S5511 (protest of the National Soft Drink Assn against the use of aspartame):

"Aspartame has been demonstrated to inhibit the carbohydrate induced synthesis of the neurotransmitter serotonin (Wurtman affidavit). Serotonin blunts the sensation of craving carbohydrates and thus is part of the body's feedback system that helps limit consumption of carbohydrate to appropriate levels. Its inhibition by aspartame could lead to the anomalous result of a diet product causing increased consumption of carbohydrates."

Dr. Sandra Cabot, Mission Possible Australia, lectures on NutraSweet all over the world and particularly on the epidemic of obesity it has caused. In her paper "Aspartame Makes You Fatter", she says: "There are logical reasons to explain the fattening and bloating effects of aspartame. When you ingest the toxic chemical aspartame it is absorbed from the intestines and passes immediately to the liver where it is taken inside the liver via the liver filter. The liver than breaks down or metabolizes aspartame to its toxic components - phenylalanine, aspartic acid and methanol. This process requires a lot of energy from the liver which means there will be less energy remaining the liver cells. This means the liver cells will have less energy for fat burning and metabolism, which will result in fat storing. Excess fat may build up inside the liver cells causing "fatty liver" and when this starts to occur it is extremely difficult to lose weight. In my vast experience any time that you overload the liver you will increase the tendency to gain weight easily. Aspartame also causes weight gain by other mechanisms - causes unstable blood sugar levels, which increases the appetite and causes cravings for sweets/sugar. Thus it is particularly toxic for those with diabetes or epilepsy. Causes fluid retention giving the body a puffy and bloated appearance. This makes people look fatter than they are and increases cellulite."
