Whilst I'm in the UK I'll be buying some tickets for myself and my wife for internal flights in Thailand.

Just want to make sure there will be no problems with my wifes name being romanized...

Also while we're on the subject ... i assume this would not be a problem with international flights...

My main reason for asking is that when booking flights, it is stated that the name be exactly as it is in the passport ( my wife will have her ID card ).... so you see my worry..

Probably similar to sending money from the UK via Western Union, when my wife sends money to her family she obviously has to romanise their names but they show their Thai ID card to obtain the cash. Hope this puts your mind at ease.

I've bought tickets, for myself, Thai wife and son, with Bangkok Airlines (BKK to Sukkothai) from the UK. Everything took place in English.

They took my Visa card number - this card I had to present when collecting the tickets at BKK.

No problems at all with ID etc. on internal flights.

EDIT// On the question of international flights: the passport is the only ID that is valid. Therefore make sure you book flight details with your wife's name as it is written in the passport.

WE once had a problem with an immigration official in Denmark because the Romanisation of our son's name in his passport is incorrect. He is named Martin, and was given this English name at birth in Thailand. However the translation from the Thai of his birth certificate when his passport was made, spelled his name Matin - we did not notice, until the immigration official pointed this out (he was reluctant to allow Martin to come into the country!!).

From that day on, I always make sure that the name on his ticket is MATIN - exactly the same as his passport.

Just checked my wife's passport and main entries in english with her name in thai written below. As long as tickets are booked exactly as name written in english, no problem. :D

After we got married the Thai authorities added a stamp to the passport to confirm her name change. We get all sorts of fun and games wherever we go. UK immigration put the visa in her maiden name even though we had been married for a couple of years.

That's happened with us, too (after 6 years of marriage).

We think its particularly annoying, because not only is it an insult to us (my wife), but it is an insult to Thai immigration (or Embassy staff) who have attested the name change.

We were going to put a lawyer on the case, but decided against it, as my wife's next passport change coincides with the date for her application for British citizenship.
