Hi there,

My girlfriend is in Thailand. Unfortunately I am not... yet!

So we stay in touch by sms, phonecalls and Skype. However we are having some problems with Skype and/or the internet connection (hers).

She can see and hear me very clearly. But her video is very unclear (and starts and stops) for me on my computer and the sounds is also not good.

I guess it has something to do with the speed of her internet connection? I was just thinking that if this was actually the reason, that my video on her computer should also be unclear - which is not the case.

Any good suggestions? I guess upgrading her internet connection would be a solution... but will this solve the problem? Any other suggestions?

She lives in Bangkok.

Thank you in advance!

Have you tried the line test on SKYPE? If you look under contacts you should see something like "Echo / Sound Test" that will help you see if it is your machine, then get her to do the same to see if it is hers....I know which one I would put my money on.

Also, check the little SKYPE icon and see what colour it is, red= shit, orange=Mmmm, green=good

Good luck.

Funny enough I was just thinking about the quality of Skype.

I have a local Skype number in Belfast for my mother to call. She rang it today. I was away and it got redirected to my mobile phone (here in Bangkok). The quality was brilliant! Mother phone's Belfast, gets redirected around the world to my mobile and it was like she was down the road.

Running video while chatting on skype can be hit and miss even with the fastest ADSL connection we can get in my area. Some days are better than others with weekends and periods of heavy rain being worse.

I was having the same problem talking to family in the UK and Ireland - I could see them fine but our video feed to them was always suffering.

I have had no such problems since I upgraded my TRUE package to include the guaranteed 1Mbs UPLOAD.

Hope this helps - the difference in call quality for us (namely at the UK receiving end) is pronounced since we upgraded.
