Where To Buy Chinese Chilli Bean Sauce?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This particular sauce, also known as 'Toban Djan' in Chinese language is used in making the Mabo Tofu dish, one of my favourites.

I brought this jar from overseas and now it has run out, so now I am looking for it here locally. Has anyone seen it? Where can I buy it?

Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

In Pattaya, a number of the expat oriented markets have some Lee brand Chinese sauces. I think I may have seen that one at Tops. Do you have Tops there?

Yes we have Tops here in CM and I have seen a few other flavours, but not this one. I will keep looking. Thanks JT.

Worse case, you could stock up in Bangkok or ask someone who is traveling there. Speaking of Chinese sauces, I am totally addicted to Thai made "Kitchen 88" XO sauce. Only place I have found it is at the Central Food hall market Pattaya.

Rim Ping Market or The Bakery Store.

Worst case, a weekend holiday in Hong Kong to stock up on sauces. ;)

No need to go that far.

Surely that decision is not yours to make.

Just stating a fact, mate. There is no need. You can go to Siberia if you want though. I get the feeling you are trying to pick a fight with me, please take a number and join the queue.

Siberia here I come

btw where is Siberia ? lol

I would try making my own sauce;

go to the nearest wet market and buy 10 baht worth of chilli sauce (nam prik phao)
