August 23, 201015 yr In the next few days, I plan to catch the Nok Air flight Suratthani --> Bangkok at 9:15pm. How to travel from Samui to Suratthani Airport? And what time should I leave Samui at the latest in order to catch my plane? Can I purchase a combined ferry + bus/coach ticket? I called Panthip Travel in Nathon and they told me that there is no direct link between Dongsak and the airport, and I have to leave Samui at 1:30pm at the latest and go through Suratthani town. Sounds early to me... I have searched through this forum but the info I could get seemed outdated. I guess you guys on the island could help me better. Your kind help would be much appreciated !
August 23, 201015 yr I did this in July. It's not as convenient as coming from the airport. I booked my ticket through one of the travel agents in Chaweng. We actually met the bus in Nathon after driving round the island in the morning. The bus goes onto the ferry and takes you to Surat town. You then wait in town by a busy road for ages until the minibus turns up. Think we caught the ferry at 2.30 and got to the airport at about 6.15 (for a 9.20 flight)..
August 23, 201015 yr What I did,I was at Koh Phangan.I caught the rasa ferry to donsak, then took the bus to surit thani bus station, and then A van to the airport.

That looks like similar time schedule. * How much was the bus+ferry trip from Nathon to Surat town? And for the minibus from Surat town to the airport? Or was it a combined fare? * How long was the road journey from Dongsak to Surat town? And from Surat town to the airport? And thanks to the other contributors too !

It was all combined with the cost of the car that took us round in the mnorning.. The bus from the airport + ferry was 500b, so it will be something on that scale. From the peir into town must have been getting on for an hour. Stood around for what felt like another hour. Then about 30 mins max to the airport.
August 24, 201015 yr Check out the combo ticket nok air has to Samui and Phangan. Bangkok (don muang) - Nakhon si Thammarat - bus to Nathon - High sped catamaran (Lompraya)

It shows that it's possible to take the 2:30pm ferry from Nathon and make it, contrary to what the Panthip lady told me. I am still trying to find a way to leave from Nathon later in the afternoon. * Tw25rw, when you were in Suratthani town, do you remember seeing taxis? I am considering taking a ferry+bus from Nathon to Suratthani town, take a look over there during the time I have, and then, take a taxi to the airport. Not sure this is possible however. Just wondering if taxis over there have a meter, or is it the same kind of mafia like in Samui. Does someone know?
August 24, 201015 yr Author Check out the combo ticket nok air has to Samui and Phangan. Bangkok (don muang) - Nakhon si Thammarat - bus to Nathon - High sped catamaran (Lompraya) Thanks, PS. This is a great initiative from NokAir to offer the package. Only problem is that the flight from Nakhon Si Thamarat is at 4:30pm, and subsequently the departure from Nathon is at 12:45pm. Too early for me. It's too bad NokAir does not offer the same combo package with the 9:15pm flight from Suratthani. Maybe I'll call NokAir tomorrow, just to check...

I took a taxi from the airport to Donsak 5 years ago...it took around an hour or so unfortunately I can't remember the exact price but its not cheap....must have been 700-800 Baht I would guess.....I would recommend you prebook one if you go this route or you're likely to get ripped off at Donsak....

It's not a tourist town so I doubt there's much of a taxi mafia. The town centre was a typically scruffy Thai town with a traffic problem, but the suburbs seemed pleasant and relatively well off.
