Hi everybody,

I have many problem to understanding the rules on marrige visa. Sure there are regulations on it, but looks like to me this such a "big secret", I spoke with 5 different people - all said different versions, how to apply.

I got a non immigrant O multiple entry visa, the visa will expired on 13th of september.

I want to extend for another year.

My first question, can I extend this on 10th of september? Some people told me cannot, cause this need to be done between the 1st and 60th day of my last enry with this visa. When I went immigration on Jomtien 8th of July, was told me come back later, cause too early.

After I went back on 10th of August to Jomtien soi 5 immigration , with my wife and with two baby of mine - both are thais - was told us, cause we have no adress in pattaya - no chanote, and no lease contract, we should do this in Issan, where my wife has adress, in the house we made 4 years ago, before my son was born. We living free in my friend condo, - i have this written - but looks like this is not enough.

The second question: My wives home book - in issan - is enough making this action, which shows, that she is living with the two baby in that house, cause we no have chanote yet - for different reason.

All others requirments as I red, we have: Guarantie from bank for 400000 - since 1 year not touched, marrige paper, babies born papers, home book, new valid pasport, pictures with my wife since i met her 7 years ago, family pictures with xmas events, birthdays, born of babies, etc.

Actually I was confused by someone also that my NON-IMM O VISA is not same as NON-IMM O Marrige??? Is it same or not same? This is another question.

I made my NON O multiple visa one year ago in my home country. I was granted it after showing my sons born paper and bankbook. Cause we married just some month ago, I cant do marrige visa before.

I never made this type of visa - i mean extention for another year, and now i try to understand is it better for me do this way my life, or just go and apply another one year multiple in Vientian on 13th of September, for another year, stay with visa runs, what cost a lot, not speaking about filling passports fast...

I living in Thailand since 2003, i never was overstayed, A simple good guy, a small fish :-)

Know also a bit, how the things work in Thailand, and why. Have illusions, Want no residency, no privilegs, no citizenship in this country, just living with my family with a legal and valid visa. Thats all my point.

Also wish to understanding, that in my case better begining this cycle now, or just doing longer my endless trips to cambodia, laos, malaysia or burma. I am not a millionaire, need give food for 3 hungry mouth every day, what makes me happy, cause I do it happy. 37 years old, no other possibilities for retirment visa.

Please anybody who did it before, help me with infos.

Please nobody, who heard about something no comments. Just sure facts.

If somebody would be so kind and send me also, if I decide NOT to extend this time my visa for another year, what I have to show in Vientian to get another multiple entry non-o - might be this time multiple entry marrige if has some differents between the two types? Should my wife escort me to the embassy, or enough me alone to go? Showing the marrige paper is enough, or need also showing bank book and bank garantie - not a problem both of them, just another 200 baht, as I did in july 8 already.

Thank you all, for helping and sorry for my english grammar. I am not a native english man, never leard in school this beautiful language.

Best regards for everyone, who is living in Thailand, this is a nice country and I am happy to be here. Wish I can stay here easier one day as now!

You should do during the last 30 days of any entry. Up to the last day is normally allowed but you have no time for missing paperwork in that case so the earlier the better.

Have your wife change her location to your friends condo - you do that at District Office.

There is no such thing as marriage visa. The non immigrant O visa is the type issued for those married to a Thai.

If you do not have time to obtain now you can easily extend your current stay for 60 days for the normal 1,900 baht TM.7 extension of stay fee or obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa from any Consulate using marriage certificate/copy of wife ID card (good to have short note from her also asking for visa to be issued). But is sounds as if you should be able to do as soon as you change the home ledger location for your wife.

Tku for help, the things you wrote was helpful very much.

If you not mind, can i ask you about, that a multiple entry non o visa also can obtain - just for to know, or if will "missing" a paper on 10th of september - in a consulate outside Thailand if i show marrige paper and copy id card of wife?

Need a bank guarantie paper in this case? Or something else?

And in single entry case need to show bankbook or bank guarantie?

Thanks for answer to me.

Normal requirement for single entry non immigrant O in the area is marriage certificate and copy of wife ID card. Extra good to have is note from wife asking for visa to be issued and copy of her home register but these seldom asked.

For multi entry non immigrant O the Embassy in KL is the best choice and above plus proof of 100k in a Thai bank account should get.

Tku, for help, decided with the 60 days extention and granted today.

They asked the place we stay and lease contract, but show only friends letter about we can stay free in his room, pasport copy of him and chanote copy was enough.

Big help was that the two baby was also with us. My wife presents also gives a big power. Alone me couldnt do for sure here.

Anyway, i could win time, the 1 yr extention will be done in a month in at home immigration, with the required papers togother.

thanks again for this.

I got another question: On 12th november will expire my present stay - they gave me today.

I go to issan on begining of october. What is the first day, i can start the 1 yr extention? I want begin as soon as possible.

Not really a reply more like questions without having start a new post.

My details are I am from UK and well over the age of fifty.

I have been married for eight years to my Thai wife and have been in Thailand on extension of temporary stay 1yr at a time for over 5years.

1. I hear and have been told I could get a multi entry visa and not have to show any money that cannot be right ?

2. Another thing I am told it is better to have residency if you can get it, is that true ?

3. If you got residency for whatever reason that might be a UK subject would lose the government pension from the UK. ?

4. I do not believe there is any better way for me to stay in Thailand than showing the 400,000 as required for a person in my position. ?

Assurance is what I need I guess from you knowledgeable guys. Regards to all.

1. Yes but only outside of Thailand and probably only in your home country. In Kuala Lumpur you could obtain with 100k in Thai bank but it might be limited as to number of years available. Such a visa requires you leave Thailand every 90 days or less so not what you would want if you have a choice.

2. Yes PR is a good goal if you can qualify but without well paid job or other strong points it is not a viable option for many in senior years. As none seem to have obtained for the last 3 or 4 years makes it even less so.

3. Do not believe it would change pension but have no direct knowledge.

4. If you can show 800k or 65k income/pension or a combination of the two to meet 800k per year the retirement option requires less paperwork and wife does not have to appear. Next best is the 400k marriage option you are using.

13/14 October should be the normal 30 days before permitted to stay expires.

Tku for answer, again very valuable info, you sent to me.

As I go foward in time I get again new questions. Thats one is originated from my wife today morning.

Our vilage Ban Na Te is in Sakon Nakhon Province. We stay just 3 km from Nong Khai Province.

Sakhon Nakhon city - the capitol of the province, where is the only immigration office the province is 120 km from us and need 2 times change bus, with the car is 1,5 hours around.

Bung Khan (border between thailand and laos) - which is in Nong khai province is just 68 km from us, half far with car and no need change bus if go with bus - no have own car, just yamaha motorbike.

How you know, the local immigration office is means the province capitol or the nearest office from us.

As I know not all provices got immigration offices, so my question is:

So the question: Possible to do this 1 yr extention in Bung khan - which is more near to us? Later would be easier the 90 days stamps to get there.

If cannot not a problem Sakon Nakhon either, but the other one would be the perfect.
