I should extend my mothers 1 year visa and recived a doucment from the immigration where it standing very clear following requirment :

1. 800,000 Baht in the account for at least 3 month

or

2. proof from your home country yearly retirement money of at least 65,000 Baht per month (the same as 65,000 x 12 = 780,000 Baht)??? strange why not 800,000??

OR

3. A combination of above 2 thing totally showing at least 800,000 Baht for one year

I recived a legal document from our embassy that she have 738,000 Baht per year in retirement money

then I also got a document and statement that during the last 1,5 year she have a bankaccount showing everything from 900,000 to minimum 594,000 Baht , and for the last month it has been over 800,000 Baht.

Then I wonder if I understand the thai law about point.3 wrong? (A combination of above totally showing at least 800,000 Baht for one year), i understand it as first she have the yearly retire money of 738,000 baht then she must have at least 62,000 Baht for at least 3 month on her account and this 2 things make 800,000 Baht and shall be okey for the requirment (in our case she had at least 594,000 for 1,5 year )

Please someone answer me if Im correct or not and if im correct, where shall I go for get right against the immigration?

She should be good to go. And there is not any requirement that the money be in account 3 months when using the combination method (but good that it is). The Embassy total plus what is in bank day of application needs to equal 800k or more. Have the Embassy letter, letter from bank of account balance and passbook/copies. The passport/copies and TM.7 with 4x6cm photo attached.

Excactly what I think also, but when I was at the immigration today, first the front officer and then the big boss told me a complete different thing and say im completely wrong.

THe boss said: if i shall use the "combination" the first 2 things have to be upfild, which means she must have 800,000 Baht in the bank for at least 3 month and retirement money of minum 800,000 Baht per year!!! then I say if that was the meaning with the "combination" I think you better take the "combination" things away, because if you have 800,000 baht on the bank account and retirement money at at least 800,000 Baht you dont need to use a "combination"

I know that they are 100% wrong and they only do this for another reason (what that reason is I dont understand??!!)

but I dont wanna do "another reason"!!?? because this is so simple that a child can understand, so what i wonder now, who can I contact that standing over the normal immigration ??

I think this is one of the worst thing I haver been to in Thailand, becasue the just sitting there and lying me in my face because they want an "another reason"!!??

please advice me with some number and perons in the top of the immigration

Probably not much help to you but these are the official rules.

(3) Proof of income of not less than Baht 65,000 per month; or

(4) Account deposit with a bank in Thailand of not less than

800,000 Baht as shown in the bank account for the past 3 months at the filing date of the application. For the first year, the applicant should have that amount in his bank account for not less than 60 days or

(5) Annual income plus bank account deposit totaling not less

than Baht 800,000 as of the filing date of application

The rules in Thai. 2.22. You can always try showing them.

Immigration information line is 1177, call them if immigration is unwilling and ask them for the rules and to explain them to the officer. But don't put on an attitude, keep it respectful.

I suspect that the confusion has occurred because the balance of the account is in excess of 800k and they have looked at it as an extension based on money in the account rather than the combination method. Had there only been 2-300k in the account I don't think there would have been a problem. I have been renewing my retirement extension for 4-5 years on a combination of cash in bank and pension and it has been straight forward every time.

According to the OP the money has only been over 800,000 for the last month.

Which is why it caused a problem. If it had been there 3 months the 800k would have sufficed. My point is that immigration officials tend to be a little myopic when looking at documents and only see what they want to see. As soon as they spot an 800k balance they assume that the application is on that basis. If the balance have been less they would have been looking for an embassy/consulate letter for confirmation of income. As the balance was over 800k I suspect that they didn't bother looking, hence the difficulties.

Probably not much help to you but these are the official rules. True. But in the Header to the English translation of P.O. 777/2551 it also says that:

".. these rules and conditions are hereby prescribed as guidelines for the Immigration Bureau to follow in granting aliens permission to stay in the Kingdom of Thailand on a temporary basis."

At any and all times such permissions are granted at the discretion of the IMM officer and they do not have to have a reason to deny extension of stay.

from Immigration.go.th

EXTENSION OF STAY

Those qualified persons can obtain an additional one year stay permit counting from the date of entry in the Kingdom pertaining to the Office of the Immigration Bureau's regulations on extension of stay. The extension of stay is at the discretion of the Immigration officer.

If you live in Phuket, can you apply for an extension for the 2 above visa types in Bangkok, or must you do it in Phuket?
