We had no cable TV yesterday until about 5pm.

I called them and the answer was no electric

Today its stopped working again, same answer and wont be on to 5pm again.

Does anyone know whats going on.

You would think a cable TV service would have an emergency generator

They are the same as True & do not care about customers as long as the money keeps rolling in. I went to pay my bill yesterday & asked about future programming as right now it is nowhere near what it was before they lost DSTV. All they could produce was a guide in Thai yet they always used to have an English version. They have been taken over by a BKK company which is probably why we see this CTH logo cluttering up the viewing screen even more than before. The latest TVs now come with a wireless USB which means it may be possible to more easily connect to the internet to watch TV shows from elsewhere (I am still checking on this as the salesmen did not know but they were able to show some kind of pseudo internet).

TV's with USB are generally playing video files from the usb not providing a direct net link.

Only way to go. Why pay for rubbish programs when you can download anything and everything you want to watch for free.

There are signal amplifier boxes along the cable route. If there is a power cut in your area you won't get a signal. The cable company has no control over this.

Exactly, or up the line from your area. My internet is through my cable TV line as well. The TV cable goes through a modem and then into the TV. I have a wireless router connected to the modem, which is maybe what Valentine is talking about. I have tried to download TV shows from the US and they are all blocked to Thailand from the US networks. They see my IP address and say; not available in your area. There was a news thread on the power outages, but there wasn't one scheduled for today. See link: Phuket Power Outages

Cable TV is cheap, therefore you can't expect a five star service. It's no different to the regular power cuts or internet outages really. We're not in a first world country.

Pay for the more expensive True Visions and you lose the service when it rains.

I believe that CTH, Cable Thai Holdings, is a conglomerate formed by a number of cable operators in order to have collective buying power. They don't own the individual companies. It's not just the channels with the CTH logo included in this deal, for example Granada and Asian Food Network are provided via CTH.

You are talking about data storage USB. Go to Power Buy or Home Pro & check out the internet@tv models which come supplied with a wifi USB which is triangular in shape. I am just suggesting this could be the way forward for direct tv broadcasts from anywhere. I suppose it can be done using existing technology but it seems to me the wifi USB will make it far easier.

The other day KPP Cable did say they are going digital & lately they have been showing recently released movies with elongated faces (on my old CRT TV) so they must look better on the LCD LED tvs. This tie in with CTH will hopefully lead to better programming but I wont be holding my breath.

For those of us who cannot receive tv from elsewhere we are basically limited to local tv, cable, True, Astro or a multitude of free but virtually useless (to me anyway) tv stations from various parts of the world.
