Dear Fellows,

One of my friends needs an advice on her job change.

She works for a Company as a contract employee and has been issued a work permit and visa that gets renewed whenever her

contract is extended (1yr), normally for a period of 2 yrs.

The work permit and visa has been renewed for 2 yrs but the job contract extension is only for 1 year.

In case she goes for a job change, what would be implications?

Are there any legal risks involved from the current Co.?

Does it requires to cancel this work permit even if its term is longer than the current job contract to move into new job?

Is there any worth of this work permit if there is a job change? Is there anything the newly recruiting Co. has to do?

Her current extension of stay would end on the last day of work at her current employer. The work permit would be history. The new company would have to arrange a work permit and she would have to obtain a new visa/extension of stay based on that employment. As to risks that would depend on conditions of contract I suspect.

Thanks for reply. So you mean that even if the Visa on passport is valid until 2011 end, if she resigns say

tomorrow, her visa also expires immediately?

She can't stay any more legally in Thailand irrespective remaining period of visa expiry?

An extension of stay from Immigration based on employment ends at the end of employment. That appears to be what she has. Visas are never renewed and in any case only allow a 90 day stay without leaving.
