The OP has said he has returned to the UK, so one must presume the Visa is for the UK.

There are indeed one or two countries that a Thai national can visit with an id card, but that doesn't answer the question, especially as the lady has mislaid her id card, it seems she has a passport.

r3aps, the id card was updated a couple of years ago and now includes a chip, there is certainly not a paper id card.

It looks like they may have given her a receipt whilst the id card is being prepared, but they are usually given on the spot, I can only assume that in the case of lost id's the authority has to carry out some checks before the new card is issued.

The reason the OP's wife was given the piece of paper rather then a new ID card is because there are issues with the new "smart" ID card and no one is sure when it will be resolved.

Corruption and confusion in 'Smart Card' fiasco

"The inaction of all agencies involved over the issue means that anyone applying for ID cards is given a "yellow paper" permit as a temporary substitute for actual cards, like in the old days when the normal procedure for issuing an ID card took 15 days.

People seeking to obtain ID cards are not even issued the third-generation "non-smart" cards, because district officers are not sure what cards they should issue if people apply for a new card or seek to renew one that has expired. "

This should not impact the UK visa, since she seems to have a passport.

thxs that is exactly what she has got a yellow piece of paper and she told me there was problems with it.

so with regards to her visa application, would you agree she should just fotocopy that yellow paper and include that in her application with a note detailing why?also the uk embassy should know about this wouldnt you agree?

thxs again
