Took our 2 yr old to Christian Clinic on CM - Lamphun Rd yesterday.  Location just south of Gwailor Barracks.   The clinic specializes in dermatology, run by the McKean people, (Leper Hospital, south of the city).  Price for consultation 50bt.  Waiting time - as long as it took to register, 2 to 3 minutes.  Doctor spoke very good English.

Sawasdee Khrup, Khun MESmith,

We're pretty sure you must be referring to the Kawila military barracks (Gwalior is one of the old "princely states" of India), and the clinic you are speaking of is on Ko Klang (sometimes transliterated 'Kaw Klang') road which splits to the right from the old Chiang Mai - Lamphun highway just after the Talat Nong Hoi market on the left.

However, if that's not correct, and the facility you speak of is much further south ... perhaps past the intersection of the old Chiang Mai - Lamphun highway and the first ring road ... could you clarify ?

thanks, ~o:37;

You're correct, got my Gwailor mixed up with my Kawila.   But the location is almost immediately south of the barracks, set back from the road with "in" & "out" gates for cars, green & white sign in Thai..  Google for Christian clinic Chiang Mai turns up results for this location on CM Lamphun Rd.  Opening hrs 8.00 to 16.00 Mon Fri, shorter hrs weekend & hols.

You impressed me, guys. Thanks. This forum really works!

P.S. In oder to avoid misunderstanding I recommend you to use latitude and longitude coordinates to mark some place in Google maps.

To get coordinates just right-click a location (any smallest point) on the map and select "What's here?" The coordinates of that location will automatically appear in the Search box at the top of the page. After you've got necessary coordinates you can use it to indicate exact location on the map – just paste coordinates in Search box and Enter (or press "Search Maps" button). Once you've tried it you never want to use old-fashioned method "go there, turn left, straight forward etc" and you never be questioned to clarify location :)

Let's try to get exact location of Christian Clinic with Google Maps Satellite View. Googlemaps' search request "Christian Clinic Chiang Mai" gives us two very similar results 18.77767,99.008075 or 18.777236,99.008161

Which one is correct?

Hope this information was helpful

Those latitudes are about 50m apart, the longitudes about 10m apart. If you can get that close & not see the clinic, maybe it's an optician you need ;)

Looking at Googlemap, what I believe to be the clinic is 18.777190, 99.008161 or thereabouts.

Dr. Siri Chiewchanvit

199 Thannon Moon Muang - very close to Pratu Taphae and Sompet Market. He has clinics at Sripat and Chiang Mai Ram and is a Professor at CMU.

Absolutely the best in Chiang Mai and one of the best in Thailand.

I absolutely agree.

I had some problems with melanoma that needed cutting out a few years back and he took care of everything very professionally.

Just try and get to his clinic when it's not full of schoolgirls (and boys) looking for complexion wonder creams....or as the above post states, see him at Ram or Sripat.

The trick to seeing him at his clinic is to get there at 16:30 when the staff opens the door and get a queue card. Then head over to your favorite bar, have a couple of drinks and come back at 18:00, hand them the queue card and you will be the next number they call. Otherwise you could wait until 21:30 to be seen.

Highly recommend Dr. Vachiraporn at Chiang Mai Ram.

Here's her CV: (pdf file)

Better HURRY !

In about 1 month from today , Dr.Vachiraporn will be taking off for 2 months to deliver and care for her first baby.

I also highly recommend this dermatologist.

I am concerned that some postings emphasise the fact that one might be able to arrive at a hospital/clinic and be seen in 10 to 15 minutes. Great, but this begs the question " why is there no-one ahead of you ?"

I know that when I make my appointment at the Ram it is for a specified time and I usually also only have a very short wait before being seen. But, at least I know that the doctor is much in demand and that, presumably means, is well recognised.

Cheers.

Found the clinic with no problem. As MESmith said about 100 meters past the army barracks main gate on the same side. There is an orange and green fence with two gates one for entrance and one for exit with their sign in front. It is an older complex but well maintained. I arrived about 3:00PM only person there. Took five minutes to register and into see the doctor. Consultation and examination by the doctor about 25 minutes the a nurse took some skin samples for lab about 10 minutes. Received my medication and paid the bill. Total time in clinic approximately 40 minuets. Oh the bill 450 baht other hospital that would have been 1.5 hours and 1500 baht. I personally thought they were very professional and on their game. I will return and do recommend them. As for directions as we were leaving I was stopped at the exit and looked directly across the street from the clinic and saw a 15 foot painting of Obama tastefully done on a white wall of a large building. I had to look about three times then I noticed to the right of the portrait an entrance to the building. I started to laugh so hard my wife asked whats up? This building is a club and its name is THE WHITE HOUSE my wife started to laugh also as she and I were in DC 2007 and was given a personal tour of the White House. She asked me "are we in Washington DC?" Thanks MESmith for the recommendation and directions.

Chaing Mai Ram hospital has a Dermatologist department. Consultation I want to say is 200 Baht.

I believe 2 at Ram...a man and young woman. 400 baht to sit down and tell them what you want, then to the curtained exam table for another 400 baht to check you out. I saw the man for a complete body scan which was a joke, maybe 50% of my body. He was most excited about telling me I had a possible "pre-cancerous" spot on my back and could recommend a surgeon to remove it. I declined. In Bangkok I see a woman dermatologist Dr Nussara at Bumrungrad Hospital...talk about a responsible body scan.....the best I have ever had.You go into an exam room, lie on a table, assistant guides the bright light while the doc scans every part of your body from head to toe with her magnifying glass. Everything was fine! 1200 baht....yeah a bit more BUT if you want the best then you always pay a bit more no matter what it is.
