November 27, 200322 yr It is essential to insure yourself against Hospitalization and Surgery (HNS), Disability Income (DI), Long-term Care (LTC) and Primary Care (PC). HNS: reimburse you when you are hospitalised or undergoes a surgery. It may cover you only in one country, or region or worldwide. DI: When you cannot perform your present occupation medically, due to accident or illness that limits your physical or mental ability. Not because you want to laze around of course! It will pay you up to 75% of your last income or up to a limit (say US$5000/mth) whichever is lower. It will pay you every month until you are of retirement age (say 65). It is different from Total and Permanent Disability because you don't have to become TPD to get paid a fixed amount. You just have to be unable to perform your present occupation. LTC: When you cannot do 3 or more of the 6 daily activities like moving, bathing, eating independently (due to handicap, illness, weakness, etc) you get paid an amount every month. Good for elderly people who r prone to stroke, paralysis, dementia, etc. PC: You r reimbursed all medical consultation and medical costs to a General Practioner (GP) (a term for 'family doctor') or Specialist refered to by your family doctor. I am wondering whether you guys have been insured? What types of plans do you get? I am thinking of BUPA's international HNS, but it is so costly. Is there a cheaper alternative in Thailand? i donwan get stucked there when, touch wood, an accident comes along and I become disabled or ill.
