Travel Idea For Long Weekend Next Week.

Featured Replies

I wonder if it's too late now to plan a short trip to neighboring countries for the long weekend next week. Do you think I can still book a flight to Luang Prabang (Laos), Siem Reap (Angkor Wat) or Rangoon, Burma for 3 - 4 days trip under B30,000 budget for two persons including accomodation (I know not possible for packaged tour)? I don't mind staying at cheap guest house as long as it's clean and at location easy to get around. Any suggestion/advice please?

Ankor is probably the best for that budget. Its most sensible to take a package and fly - if you can still get a ticket.

If you want to cut costs to the bone, get the Bus to Chom Chon (the bottom of Surin) that will cost you all of 300 B with all the connections, and a guy will drive you the 4 hours there and back for 2000 Baht (from memory).

Then you have a heap to spend on hotels and the Ankor Beer.

You can see a fair bit of the countryside as well.

I am staying at home, and not going near the roads - they are shocking on long weekends.

Yeah... don't want to hit the road on long holiday in Thailand.....

I'll be flying if I can still book the flight.

Any idea how much a night's stay at decent guest house in Siem Reap and Luang Prabang might cost? And do they have guest houses in Burma? Any idea if there's a direct flight from BKK to Mandalay?

We're thinking about doing this for the Holiday coming up on Aug 12 for a long weekend in Luang Prabang. Love to know what you(Nordlys) did. Did you do Laos?

If so, loved to know the details about your trip to Luang Prabang(air fare/carrier/hotel, etc.)

Thanks,

Guest houses in Siem Reap range from US$5 a night up.

You will also find guesthouses in Burma quite cheap.

Why don't you take a short flight to Kunming in South West China? Very interesting place. Dali and Lijiang are also nearby.

No, in the end we didn't go. :o Just couldn't book the return flight from Luang Prabang and while we were waiting for the opening on return flight all the flights to and from Siem Reap were fully booked up so didn't go anywhere. I and my wife are going to Vietnam instead at the end of August for short, 3 nights, 4 days trip on cheap Air France promotional package as I mentioned in "Vietnam" thread. :D

Yeah, us too. On the waiting list for a return flight from LP on Sunday Aug 14. It aint gonna happen. Too Bad. Surprised that the round trip from BKK costs around 9000 Baht, including taxes.

Ironically, could get my new Fortuner 3.0 Diesel on Aug 10th but planned on flying to LP on the 11th. They said the options would have to be added by the dealer so I could get it on the 10th/11th if forget about the options. Since I thought I'd be at LP on the 11-14th I said, that's OK, add the options and I'll get the car on the 16th, after the holiday.

Now I have a long weekend waiting for "my baby" and dreaming about my baby.
