An Australian man jailed during anti-government protests in Bangkok, and then kept in a Thai immigration detention centre because he couldn't pay for his deportation, is finally headed home.

Conor David Purcell, 30, left Bangkok on a Malaysia Airlines flight on Tuesday to arrive in Sydney on Wednesday.

A Thai surgeon who encouraged him to address the protesters in Bangkok, leading to his arrest during the city's unrest earlier this year, stumped up for Purcell's air fare.

Purcell spent two weeks at a Thai immigration detention centre after 45 days in jail for breaching state of emergency laws during the protests in Bangkok in April and May.

He was to be deported after his jail sentence, but his family was unable to meet the $A460 cost of an air ticket to Australia, his benefactor Dr Pongsak Phusitsakul said on Tuesday.

Dr Pongsak, a medical doctor and supporter of the anti-government protesters known as Red Shirts, had met Mr Purcell on April 10 after the Australian was hit by a rubber bullet fired by Thai troops during attempts to disperse the protesters.

It good that he is being deported because he has no right to demonstrate because he is a foreigner and can't interfere our internal affair. Ex Army reservist in Aus - that usually means he did not want to work full time, got a payday apart from his job who had to suffer his absenteeism, and got to play with guns and things that go boom. He's going back to join a new protest against the "unelected" Labor government.

Supporters of the Coalition Liberal/National Party, who got more votes and more seats in the election - but not enough to form a majority government, are upset at the horse trading and the buying of the independents by Labor, especially since the independents were all basically ex-Liberal or National Party members.

They are planning to blockade the middle of Sydney (who would care if they blockaded Canberra) for 2 months, finishing off with burning down QVB and a couple of other buildings around the city.

That's the sort of thing that people "who want democracy" do.
