I have a re-entry permit (single) that I am going to use in mid-October. I will then be coming back to Thailand after a 6-month stay in Scandinavia. I have a 1-year extension on a Non-Immigrant (spousal) Visa that expires in late December. Last time I did a 90-day report was back in late March. My question is: What do I do after I am stamped back in at the airport in Thailand? I live in Chiang Mai. Do I go to the Immigration Office close to the airport the same day and do a 90-day report there? Or can I wait until the next day, after all I will have been traveling for nearly 24 hours straight and I am going to be very tired...

And after I do this then my yearly visa renewal in late December will be out of sync with 90-day reports?

Thanx in advance for the wisdom soon coming my way in response to this post!     :wai:

Best not to wait until the last day... as sometimes personal issues arise or there are government holidays or other complications.

Generally, anytime in the week prior to your 90 day deadline is acceptable...

ThaiVisa has a nice online date calculator that makes figuring the correct deadline easy... Just count forward from your entry date back into Thailand.

Do you mean that you'll leave Thailand in October and will come back to Thailand only after 6 months (sometime April 2011)?

If this is the case you won't even need a re-entry permit since it will expire in late December as does your extension of stay expires. You will have to obtain a new Non-Imm-O visa and start again.

As for your 90-days reporting you are way overdue and may be fined 2,000.- Baht. You should have reported your address in late June.

Opal, I believe the OP was saying he was planning to return to Thailand this October, after a six month stay abroad, and has a permission to stay until December.

He said he was going to use his re-entry permit in October, which I'd presume mean use to facilitate his re-entry back into Thailand.

If that's correct, the prior advice stands. But if something has gotten lost in translation, then the point you raise is a valid one.

No, I will re-enter Thailand in mid-October after 6 months in Europe.

When you return you will do your 90 day report 90 days after arriving.

Do it in Chiang Mai.

I have seen similar querries coming up here and in pub chats etc - It seems many are not aware that when re-entering the kingdom, the arrival card asks for address in Thailand, and this counts as the 90 day report (as you have indeed just reported you address to immigration) - and the clock starts at zero.

OK, sorry that was a misunderstanding on my part. Please disregard my post above and listen to all the other advice which has been provided.

7 days before, 7 days after, no problem.

Just done mine today, in and out in 3 minutes, Pattaya, Jomtien Soi 5, no copies of passport or photo needed.

When I done it in Loei ( Chiang Khan ) , I had to have copies of passport plus photo.

Maybe things have changed, but different Immigration Offices having different policies.

Silly, people need to be a bit careful about the 7 days after notion you mention above...

In Bangkok, for example, people have the option to report via postal mail. If you choose that route, you need to have the notice physically delivered to Immigration no later than your deadline day. It's not treated the same as when reporting in person...

Notification by registered mail
  1. Copy of all passport pages (up to the latest arrival stamp in the Kingdom or latest visa stamp)
  2. Copy of arrival/departure card TM.6 (front and back)
  3. Previous notifications of staying over 90 days (if any)
  4. Completely filled in and signed notification form TM.47
  5. Envelope with 10 Baht stamp affixed and return address of foreigner for the officer in charge to send back the lower part of form TM. 47 after having received the notification. This part must be kept for reference and for future notifications of staying over 90 days.
  6. The above mentioned documents must be sent by registered mail and the receipt of the registration kept by the foreigner.
Send the mail before the renewal date 7 days to
  7. 90 DAYS REGISTRATION,
    IMMIGRATION DIVISION 1
    120 MOO 3, CHAENGWATTANA ROAD,SOI 7,
    LAKSI, BANGKOK. 10210

Note

  • The notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days is in no way equivalent to a visa extension.
  • If a foreigner staying in the kingdom over 90 days without notifying the Immigration Bureau or notifying the Immigration Bureau later than the set period, a fine of 2,000.- Baht will be collected. If a foreigner who did not make the notification of staying over 90 days is arrested, he will be fined 4,000.- Baht.
  • If a foreigner leaves the country and re-enters, the day count starts at 1 in every case.

1. Arrival clock starts at 1 - day you arrive is day one of the 90 day count.

2. During December extension of stay see if Chiang Mai will accept the 90 day report to get it back in sync - they seem to be actively trying to do that at that office.

OK, thanks! I'll try that.
