Settlement Visa Advice

Hi

New to the forum and looking for some advice please,

My wife has had a tourist visa granted for 6 months in the past year, and we are now looking to apply for the settlement visa,

Do the immigration take into consideration previous visa applications or is the evidence based purley upon the documents and application you submit for the settlement visa ?

Just wondering if this makes the process easier if you have immigration history,

The ECO will assess the application purely on the evidence you supply for the settlement application. And you should submit all evidence again, even if you've already supplied it for the visit visa.

Having said that you know the documentation (eg; contact, financial, accommodation, etc.) you supplied for the visit visa was acceptable and adequate so if it's also required for the settlement visa just update it and submit that.

Consciously or sub-consciously the fact that your wife had a visa previously, and ( presumably) complied with the terms of that visa, will register in the ECOs mind. It is, of course, evidence that goes towards substantiating the claimed relationship. That said, the criteria for the grant of a settlement visa are different from those needed to obtain a visit visa, and, therefore, the documentation required will be different in some respects. Some of the documentation that you provided for the visit visa will be required again and some won't, along with some new and different documents. There are posts ( pinned ) on the forum that give full details of the documentation required to obtain a settlement visa.
