Application To Change Visa Type

Featured Replies

I have been living in Thailand for three years. A tourist visa has been my method of stayinghere. A couple of weeks ago I applied tohave my tourist visa changed to a retirement visa. I did this at the main government centerimmigration office in Bangkoktwo weeks before it expired.

I submitted copies of my passport pages, an application witha photo and an affidavit from the American embassy as to the amount of myincome.

I received a stamp in my passport good for 90 days andinstructions to submit another income affidavit of income (1,650 Baht toAmerican Embassy again.) and a doctors certificate saying I am healthy, And I would think another application formand picture. All this to be done 30 days prior to theexpiration of this 90 day stamp that I got in my passport.

My wife works for the Thai Government. So she was able to chat away with the verypretty lady Police Lieutenant that gave me the stamp and directions on how toproceed. My wife and the police lieutenant are friends now so I guess everything is OK but would like to know moreof the details about this procedure.

I would appreciate any information or details about what Ihave yet to do. Joe Casey

The doctors certificate requirement was dispensed with years ago.

You obtained the required non immigrant visa entry on your visit for 2,000 baht. In two months you return with a TM.7 form with 4x6cm photo attached and new income certificate to obtain a one year extension of stay for retirement. You may have to supply a map to home at that time. Your digital photo will be taken and index finger prints. Cost will be 1,900 baht. Any travel now requires you obtain a re-entry permit first to prevent loss of current permitted to stay until stamp. Cost for this will be 1,000 baht singe or if you expect to travel a lot 3,800 baht multi entry.

I would have map and proof of leave/home register or letters with home address just in case asked. If wife with you this is probably not going to be required.

You will do the same TM.7 procedure each year but medical certificate should not be required and if staying in Thailand more than 90 days need to report address every 90 days.

Sorry to barge into this thread but I have a question. I'm on a multi non O that I got out of country last April (used my marriage certif). I plan to do the "get 15 months" out of it trick which takes me into July 2011. This is the month that I turn 50. Is there anything I can do with that visa in Bangkok regarding extending it to get past my 50th birthday and then getting the retirement extension after that?? My birthday is after my 15 months would be up on the multi-O. thx in advance

Your post is a bit confusing. With 15 months you have a valid permission to stay until July 2011. When is your birthday and do you turn 50?

You can apply for an extension based on retirement if you are already 50 before your final permission to stay ends in July 2011. If not, you can get a 60 day extension based on your Thai wife and then extend based on retirement if you turn 50 within those 60 days.

Awesome Mario, you're always a huge help. Sorry for confusing post. But I turn 50 on July 27. My Non-O based on marriage expires in early April but my plan is to leave country before it expires so I get another 3 months. Those 3 months take be to about 2 weeks before I turn 50. So if I can go to immigration in bkk before that stamp ends (July 15 about) and get 60 days due to having a wife here, can I go extend for one year based on retirement say in August. Would I need 21 days left on that 60 day extension to extend for one year based on retirement? Also do I follow the OP's instructions above regarding map to my home plus of course proof of adequate pension? Hope that wasn't too confusing but it is a bit complicated I know. Thank you pal

Can I quote you to the immigration officer?

You should be able to extend any time with less than 30 days remaining if you meet the financial conditions. Have some type of map in case asked but only has to be as you would draw for a delivery truck.
