I am in Phnom Penh at present, obtaining a single entry tourist visa. Flew in on AirAsia on Wednesday evening and submitted application on Thursday morning, with my return flight to Bangkok late Friday afternoon. Women who interviewed me was very prickly and lectured me that there is a 4 day turnaround for visa issue. After a bit of discussion (and an offer from me to pay an "expediting fee") she agreed to do it in 2 days and hand it over at 2.30pm rather than the normal time of 3-4pm. She also said that next time would not be able to get in 2 days in PP. No problems with this as PP is a shithole and won't be back! No charge for tourist visa.

Phnom Penh has never been very friendly toward thai tourist visas. It's kinda on par with Penang I would say.

I remember once i had exactly the same issue with them , and after discussions ...did receive it back the next afternoon.

You are correct about PP, theres not much there and even less to do.

Back in Thailand now. Went to the Thai Embassy at the appointed time of 2.30 yesterday to pick up my passport. A male came out at 2.35 and served half a dozen Cambodians first and then told me my visa wasn't ready. I offered him $5 but not much reaction. Remained firm and explained I had a flight at 1720, lady had said ok yesterday, etc. After another 5 minutes he suddenly found my passport WITH visa and I left him the $5. My impression is that a higher amount may have got my passport sooner but I made my flight no problems so all was well.

In fairness to the Embassy staff in PP . it has long been known that it is a 4 day turnaround for Thai visas at that Embassy.

To pre-book return flights and expect them to process a free visa in little more than 24 hours says more about the OP than Embassy staff.

I regularly do my visas there and look forward to a week of R&R in PP enjoying what PP has to offer and never a problem .

That said a four day turnaround for tourist visa issue is not normal at Thai Consulates and most people would not suspect such without specific knowledge of that particular Embassy.

It took 4 days for my visa in PP and they were not very friendly. I don't know why one would have to pick up the visa from the guard outside. I was able to pick mine up inside.

I was in Phnom Penh this month for a single entry tourist visa

Four working days. Drop off in morning - they open 8.30am not 9.30 like others I've been to, collect after 2.30pm. The 4 days didn't bother me I was there a week and expected this. The date on my visa shows it was processed/approved the same day I applied . . .

When i went to collect my passport met a man there who had managed same-day service for US $20.

While he and I were waiting an 'agent' came in and collected a pile of maybe 30 passports and handed over another bundle, must be quite a lucrative business.
