September 13, 201015 yr I plan to build a house with Hemp and a lime binder. The lime will be a hydraulic lime , not those from trees........... I would like to know the Thai name of this or any other type of building lime. Thank you for your assistance.
September 13, 201015 yr You are probably looking for Boon Khao Cement White Calcium Hydroxide Ca(OH)2 I buy it in Chiang Mai for B2.50 / kg. Never had a limit on how much was available. 10 kg clear plastic bags Would love to have a large enough market to justify roasting it, as I have unlimited source of CaCO3 and matching source of biomass fuel.
September 17, 201015 yr Another possibility for cheap brick block wall binder, is plain old Gypsum CaSO4 Plaster of Paris. Wet sticky Hydrated Gypsum is roasted dry in an oven or skillet as simple as a big wok. If you pick up sheetrock scraps along the highway as I do, you have a steady source, or it occurs naturally near coal fields and limestone quarries As long as your end product is not subject to liquid water, it will serve as suitably as concrete. Moisture doesn't harm it, actually serves as a heat sink if full sun shines on it. I learned in the course of playing with fertilizer raw materials, that if you add a bit of sulfuric acid to fine clay, the product after drying is very water repellent. Just about like ceramic I've not tried it in brick, but acid dosed clay and water, left to dry in a bucket, then tossed out in the rain, did not return to its normal clay condition I then ran a hose directly on it, it did not break up...held together under the hose stream. I surmise that wet clay dosed with acid, then pressed into a brick and sundried, would be hard as a rock and water proof as well. It might work the same way for really cheap mortar, although I'd wear old clothes and rubber gloves to work it.
September 28, 201015 yr Author Hi, Thanks for the replies. I have planted 5 Rai of hemp now and expect a crop in 3 months. Will now study mixes and methods of implementation. Would appreciate any links anyone finds but I have some which I will publish later so anyone can ask what I have so far. Sunn Hemp, Corn, Cowpea, rice and Jack bean can be sourced from Saraburi by contacting K. Sunee at 081 8202626 and email at [email protected]. She is knowledgable and speaks good English. Thanks again and I believe this a good subject to follow up on and will be an advantage to many people. Thanks again.
September 29, 201015 yr Do you mean hydrated lime, rather than hydraulic lime? I'm not sure that hydraulic lime will be readily available but bagged, builders’ lime can be had in most builders’ yards. I’ve had a tiny bit of experience with this (I whitewashed a small adobe building I built here last year.) I presume you’re going to be using a fair bit and the quality of the lime available can vary enormously so if I were you, I’d hunt down a supplier/manufacturer, rather than relying on what you can get from the shops. If you don’t me asking, why did you decide to build with hemp and lime?
