I live more than two years in Thailand now. Not a long time, I know but still some others failed in less than this duration.

As my family has gone through a lot of administrative procedures in the meantime I think it is time to say thanks a lot to the Thai Immigration (especially the three guys in Udon Airport) and the German Embassy. While the services are always quite expensive (almost 200 EUR for German Passport -- sai thong chai mai?), everybody was very friendly, fair and helpful and delivered just in time without any games or hassle.

Had a good experience all the time, and as the majority just complains I would like to say: good job, thank you guys!

The best.

I certainly second the above statement regarding Immigration (BKK) and the German embassy.

E-mails to the German embassy are replied to within 1-2 working days.

I agree re the immigration people in Bangkok. Always helpful and trying to do a good job in my experience.

I cannot comment on the German embassy, but maybe they could give the British embassy some hints? I have not used them of late . Positive comments anyone?

When I have used the US Embassy in the past service was what you expect, fill out the paper work submit and process no problem no hassel. Thai immigration in Chaing mai was also very efficent earlier this year for my tourist visa extension.
