Visa Run

Featured Replies

I tried to find it on the regular page, the one TV is build on, but I cannot find the answer, so here it is:

What in God's name is a visa run, why you make it, and more questions.

A trip over the border to get a Visa !

your gonna ask me what a 'trip' is next right ;)

unless you knew all along in which case your trolling :D

It usually applied to the habit of many farangs of leaving the country every 30 days to get a visa exemption.

When the rules changed so they could only get a 15 day exemption by using land borders like Mae Sai/Tachilek, it was hardly worth the trouble so many up graded their status to true visa holders.

The term is still used by people such as myself who hold the type of visa where you have to leave the country every 13 weeks to renew it.

When you live in Chiang Rai it involves a pleasant drive to the Burmese border with lunch and a little duty free shopping. (And Pirate DVDs.)

That s what I thought and also I know about the 15/30 days rule. What kind of visa do you have then? (You can pm me)

I'm not shy, I have a one year multiple entry non-immigrant B.

SD Thank you! Do you perhaps know what other kinds of visa need a border run every 13 weeks? I have an O-A

@ Jubby: Why do you think that because You know, the rest of the world also does?

I am a lawyer and as far as I know it is common that Everybody must know the law, from whatever country.. What do you know about the law from Your country? And how about Thai law? I know more about Thai law than most lawyers here in Thailand but that is my hobby those are my roots of studying. It also has to do because not One country has to invent the wheel again and just copy from other countries, besides that.. most of our (international) law is based on the Roman law And don't forget.. the Ten Commandments.

So trolling because I don't know?

Do I presume correctly that people who do visa runs are unable to qualify for the one year extention or do some do it non the less due to the hassle of getting the one year extention?

Depends on what your requirements are.

I prefer to do it my way because it suits me as I travel regularly to Australia. It's a simple matter to apply for a new visa every twelve months.

When I'm eligible for the Australian old age pension then I will reconsider my options.

Others may lack the necessary funds to be eligible for retirement or marriage visa.

I knew quite a few people who lived here on continuous 30 day visa exemptions for quite a long time.

Obviously this is a lot more difficult now.

Appologies, I just assumed ; wrongly, that everyone knew someone who did Border runs once in a while.

I guess I'm just a Rotten Pommie so and so .

As your a lawyer, I hope accusing you of being a Troll in jest is not a Capital Offence in Thailand or your country of birth . Can you ever forgive me !? :D

I'll just turn down my Keyboard sensitivity . There Done.

Where are you from by the way ?

OK, I guess its no Gossiping from now on then. If you catch me gossiping give me a gentle reminder. I'm just off to tell our 'Puyai Ban' about this Gossiping offence. My Village do nothing but Gossip :D

I am reliably informed that it is physically impossible for men to gossip. They interact verbally on a much higher plain. Any exchange of information involving another person's character is merely incidental to the main conversational thrust.
