Nail Art

Featured Replies

I bit my nails for years, so never got into the whole fingernail beauty thing. But, now I have nails and I still haven't ever had a manicure. My sister gets those little drawings on her big toenail, and I see alot of women with them on their fingernails.

Whats the deal with that? Isn't it kind of, I don't know, distracting?

So, ladies, and gents if your wives are into that kind of thing. Whats the appeal?

Toenails painted, and with little drawings, or designs, flowers or gems, are very pretty! It really improves the appearance of feet.

I'm not so sure about fingernails. I like mine well groomed but natural- no polish. I like them shiny though. I think they look clean.

It is art, I enjoy looking at other people's nails.

Playfulness, accessorizing...

I like my nails as Chantaal, because it is just too much hassle to paint and repaint them. But I started polishing again for fun. Long polished nails give me 'femme fatale' feeling.

I especially like beautiful feet, with so many ugly (as in not taking care of) feet in flipflops, it is a surprise to see happy toenails.

my feet are like primitive primate like .. long toes, all callused... dont want anyone to see my toes even thought now i wear heeled sandals to work, my toes are more visible... (and thanx to those heels, i tripped and flew through the air and ripped a good pair of black pants....but dont put polish on them to not call attention to them.

but i do like my nails. when i worked with the goats i had to have short nails for the birthing season (hands have to help pull stuck little goatlets out to the world and mom goats certainly dont want to have long nails in their uteruses.) also, while working with food i think short clean nails are better for keeping clean (even if wearing gloves)and looks more p rofessional, like if someone is working with your food and they have long nails u have to wonder about bacteria.

some of our cleaning girls (the room maid staff) have amazing long expensively sculptured nails, but they also wear amazing high heels and other fashionaable clothes while working. when i worked for a short spell as room staff, i dressed in my goat work clothes and closed shoes.

i also see lots of young mothers with those long square nails with jewels and things on them and i wonder how they take care of diapering and bathing their babies, without scratching or gouging them? ...

so now, i do my nails. but only in burgundy or plum redish colours, or pale pink, pear white. around here u will see professional women , teachers, etc with green nails,! black nails with little shiny jewels in them !?!, the woman who does my bank stuff has little rings in her index finger nails which looks really cool when she counts the shekel bills...

ive never been to a manicurist in my life although we have two on kibbutz so could get done for free and they both do nail sculpture and painting... i dont like the feel of people messing with me, i hate cosmetic facial things also.

my big pressing question of late is: which is more in style now? squared off long nails, or the original oval long nails?

rings on her nails??

I can't grow long fingernails, mine are very soft and tear --they get to a certain length and then one by one, they tear and have to be cut short. :(

So, I always have polish on my toenails, usually something bright like a fire engine red or bright pink.

couldnt find a pic of that particular fashion here, but what they do is pierce the nail at the tip and put a small hoop ring thru it... or a hoop with something shiny dangling from it; thats what makes my bank lady so fascinating by watchng her count the bills with those dangly fingernail things....

in hebrew, it says: spiral; flower beads, or aquarium with water in it!?!

this is common enough fashion. even people with no money will spend a fortuen doing nails for a wedding or bar mitzva party, also the hair and the new set of clothes for each happening, keeps people broke.
