Prisons nationwide warned about Friday's reds gathering

Corrections Department has warned prisons nationwide about the red shirts' planned gathering on Friday to lay roses in front of many prisons where their comrades are detained. At present, a total of 252 red shirts members are detained in 17 prisons in the country, Chatchai said.

Director General Chatchai Suthiklom said that the prison authorities of about 100 prisons nationwide have been instructed to be on alert about the gathering on Friday.

"Although we believe that there would be no violence, we have to be prepared and on alert," he said.

The prison officials would cooperate with local police to ensure peace and safety inside the prisons during the gathering.

The red shirts would lay roses in front of the prisons throughout the country to call for the detained comrades to be released. The red shirts claimed that they are political prisoners not suspects under emergency laws.

Chatchai said that the prisons' activities would continue as usual on Friday, including visits of family and relatives to the detainees.

they are not politicial prisioners. They are criminal and needs to be locked up until proven innocent.. . . . . Just like the Saudi case. . . . "Ashri and other Saudi officials at the meeting were seen shaking their heads when Suthep cited the doctrine of "innocent until proven guilty" in response to the diplomat's statement citing cases of Thai police officers' promotion being put on hold while investigation into their past wrongdoings were pending.- Nation 16Sept2010"

What do expect from the head criminal mastermind himself? He feels anything is justified to bring himself to power

I notice they have been caught out lying and the Saudis are now downgrading relations according to several sources.

No post of it on the Thai Visa news section though. Very strange. It's a very big and important story.

Both Piengrudee's and your posts belong to another thread, I think.

As for your last sentence, don't be impatient, all good will come to those who wait a bit. Mind you one of the other English language newspapers in Thailand seems a bit quicker in newsflashes than the Nation. I guess it depends on whether you want to be first, or more accurate, or both ;)

Now this is/was a good plan by the present government. Put the Red shirt prisoners in 17 different prisons scattered around the country. The old 'divide and conquer' thinking for the prisoners and the sympathizers/protesters who will be out this Friday. If they can keep the numbers manageable they could have a pot luck meal, for all concerned groups.

This is ridiculous and detrimental thinking to the cause of the yellow shirts and all of those who seek true democracy in Thailand. I understand your fear and hatred of the red shirts but try to realize that what you are saying is not only ignorant, but offensive to the yellow shirt movement. First of all, the saudis are monarchists and do not believe in true democracy, hence the statement guilty until proven innocent. The yellow shirts in thailand have faith in their monarchy, but support a democratic government. In order for there to be democracy, you must have an operative judicial system whereby the criminal is ALWAYS innocent until proven guilty. It should be a burden to produce evidence to convict any criminal. THEN when that burden is served and the criminal IS found INNOCENT or GUILTY....that verdict can be celebrated as absolute fact and completely indiputable. Maybe you should take a remedial course in basic political science before you post next time. Good Luck...whew!

I believe that your " remedial course in basic political science " has failed you -- or perhaps you failed the course.

The last time I checked, France was still a democracy , and operating under Napoleonic law. If a defendant is accused in France pursuant to a competent, independent investigation, the defendant , in effect is presumed guilty. The entire burden of proof is on the defendant to prove his innocence. One shudders at the thought of such a system operating in Thailand.
