Where To Stay

Recommended Posts

How about The Gate just south of the southern part of moat?

You could probably get a room at the Rydges for that price at this time of year if you wanted to be closer to Thapae Gate. Not much sun on the pool though.

The Empress is good, although bit farther out. Nice rooms, great breakfast, shallow pool but.

Would advise against Chiang Mai Plaza if it makes it on your shortlist as management is most morbid.

Hi highlander76

I've never liked those forum responses that tell folks seeking answers to questions or advice, to go and 'Google' it, or send them packing to other sites or search engines. This is not only rude, but it makes the point of an interactive forum pretty pointless.

The whole idea of these social networks is to bring like minded people together, in real time', with up to the minute help and guidance. However, in your case, I'm going to sway my belief and suggest you go and do a search on Trip Advisor.

Here you will not only get a list of places to consider, but under each hotel/guest-house description, there are comments made by those folks who have actually stayed at each place. This helps to give a genuine representation from a customer perspective.

Even if you want more feedback, you can still return here with your short-list and see in anyone else has something to contribute on your chosen options.

Tripadvisor's alright but a bit slow and tatty. On a similar tack, Travelfish is also worth a look, while Hoteltravel gives decent maps and overviews to boot.

For a brief, up-to-date (albeit non-review-type, yet editable) look at hotels of Chiang Mai on one page (along with a guide on the town in general), Wikitravel is the de facto source today:
