The irony is anyone who spends 5 Mil + for what would cost no more than 40K Euros in Europe (or 1.6 Mil Baht) is the real wannabee. Get real, only Thais do that, purely as a misguided symbol of status. Europeans should (and the overwhelming majority do) have more sense.

Hi

You are so wrong about car prices in Europe, maybe UK 40K but where i come from a 5 serie 525i SE is, hold on, Euro 120K, so to pay 3-5mill Baht for a car is cheap for me, very cheap.

:)

So cars in Thailand is cheap

Just watched a video on Facebook called 'Toyota Yaris modified to Transformer Car by Thailand Garage Phuket'

The other day read about some carpark used at weekend by Phuket Town for 'Introducing Thailand's ultra-modified cars' at weekends this same area plays host to some serious car enthusiasts. South Thailand’s top suppliers of car parts showcase their ultra-modified wagons here at a kind of all-night rave.

Edit: I am old so no longer see the point, but near me there is a old pickup in bright orange, wide body kit, doors that open upwards, so low in almost is on the ground + the back bed is a huge sound system, you hear it coming long before you see it.

OK the owner has a little sound system garage/workshop always appears to be different car/truck being worked on.. Believe this orange truck maybe has air suspension ? as then it is outside his shop it rest on the ground.

When I was growing up in Canada, my first car when I was 16, was a '66 Chevy Beaumont SS. It was held together with chicken wire and bondo. But it was a classic; 396cc with 2 Holly four barrel carbs and it went!!! I also had a '70 Plymouth Roadrunner with 428 Hemi. These cars were worth fixing up. But then I grew up and realised that a car was really a mode of transportation for getting from A to B and the important thing for me was to save money for a house. Fixing up a Yaris, Vios or Jazz is like putting lipstick on a pig, it is still a pig.

I don't understand the Asian mindset, near my house is a small village with some homes that are like shacks. But they all have new cars parked in the driveway, some have two. The cars are always spotless and (shiny) but the houses are like something from Steptoes and Son, and garbage strewn everywhere. I just don't understand this mindset. I spend about an hour a day in my car, the rest of the day is at my home when I am not working. Nice comfortable home or flash car? The choice for me is an easy one, comfy home. I don't care what people think about what kind of car I drive.

All I can say to your post is, everyone is different in this world otherwise what a boring place it would be, a car is just a car to you but to some people it is very important and if they want to modify a Yaris,Jazz or any other car what does it matter, is it actually effecting you or hurting you answer no it's up to them... and it makes them happy.

And that is the same reason why the majority of Thai's do not wear crash helmets, its all about losing face in front of other's.

I have been and there are some really cool cars there. Loud stereos, some pretty class stuff if you're into that. Nothing against the Jazz, Vios or Yaris as a mode of transportation, I have driven them. But to spend money lowering them, putting spoilers and big exhausts on a small economy car seems like a waste of money to me. But some of the bling bling pickups, well what can you say!!!

Some look like Pimpmobiles! It cracks me up and I just gotta laugh!

Nouveau riche (French for "new rich"), or new money, refers to a person who has acquired considerable wealth within his or her generation.[1]

If that were the case, a lot of foreigners have adapted well. For short rides I don't wear a crash helmet, and I see lots of other farang doing the same.

When you posted the above.........did you hear a loud whooshing noise above you?

Too many people these days don't risk, they refuse to accept the risks of living. Risk avoidance seems to be the motto all over the world.

I do what I feel like.
