Before dealing with the Thai whores on Beach Road, perhaps the East European hookers should be cleared away.

How do they work in their own designated bar on Walking Street? They don't have work permits, so should be deported............but obviously like everything in Thailand..........palms are greased! :annoyed:

Who are they bothering?

That's a Thai immigration and also a mafia matter. Beyond the scope of this topic.

My views are purely social libertarian. Do as you please as long as what you are doing doesn't spoil the quality of life for other people. So I hate when people smoke in restaurants because they are fouling up other people's enjoyment. Same difference for the street whores, it is a total occupation of that prime real estate spoiling it for anyone other than hookers and johns.

On what basis are you saying that it is spoiling it for anyone other than hookers and johns?

Is Walking Street spoiled in the same way? I see hundreds of curious tour groups including family groups who are very interested and curious to see the famous street.

Maybe the average tourist rather enjoys a stroll down the exotic hooker laden beach road. Where else can one see such sights? It obviously doesn't appeal to JT but then JT is not the average tourist is he?

I walk down the beach most nights at varying times and have never been offended by the hookers but often annoyed by the crude and insulting behaviour of the johns to some of the girls. Small groups of Indian looking gentlemen seem to have the worse attitude to the girls. More than once I have heard a girl call after the groping leering negotiator walks on 'go <deleted> your mother/dog'.

Much more worrying to me are the Ladyboys who hang out between Klang and The Hard Rock Hotel. They brazenly grab likely looking victims and pick their pockets whilst the confused and overwhelmed victim tries to fight off their groping and kissing. This goes on every single night.

JT go and have a look at them and perhaps you can start a campaign to rid the beach of thieves rather than the often desperate but good natured and essentially harmless street walkers.

OK lets stick to topic as JT requests

Should Street Prostitutes Be Cleared From Pattaya Beach Road.. In my opinion NO -or at least not in isolation.

If you are going to "tart-up" Beach Road, then all undesirables must be removed permanently - en masse! And we all know that will not happen. Too much bakshish would be lost!

It goes without saying that I am against thieves. Everyone is against thieves, even thieves. I have already stated that Walking Street is cool and indeed a major tourist attraction. I liken it to Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Let's focus please to the beach walk which has been basically taken over by hookers and johns.

Nope. Of course nothing is total. Of course a reasonable peppering of more discreet whores doesn't bother anybody. The objection here is their massive occupation of what should be a public resource for everyone.

This is an uncomfortably tough subject. Sure, the antics of many of the Thai ladies along Beach Rd. are a general pain in the ass no matter who you are. And sure, it'd be a beautiful, balmy, carefree stroll along that same walkway if they weren't there. But... what can you do, really? So many Thai ladies badly need money and have but two products to sell; their beauty and charm. So, based on past experience, and what they've been told- many come to Pattaya. The huge flock of beach ladies that gathers along Beach Rd. are as sure to return there with their own regularity as the swallows to Capistrano. I see it as years and years of repetition... kinda like gathering in the best "feeding ground."

My best-guess solution: If the Pattaya government wish to continue to turn a blind eye to all things sex-related until something unlawful happens, nothing on Beach Rd. can change. Nearly all of the unlawful events which begin with encounters along the beach seem to usually occur elsewhere, like a hotel or condo. So, what about... the farangs members of the Tourist Police? Could not things in general, along Pattaya Beach Road improve at least somewhat with the presence of these concerned citizens? I mean, maybe every 100 meters or so, have a farang policeman or two, who can sit around or stroll around just to make their presence felt. They'd probably gain a lot of newfound admiration if they helped to make that infamous stretch of shoreline a lovely, tropical promenade... again.

They did have tourist police (farang ones) on the Beach Road some years ago, and all they did was sit and talk to the whores!

Ok, all they did was sit and talk to the... ladies. But, the OP is talking about everyone's libertarian rights to do as they will as long as they do not negatively effect another's rights to do the same! If the presence of talking farang cops could bring the whole Beach Rd.scene even a little more under control, the it's a step in the right direction, and can be refined/improved. Beats sitting around, bitching and moaning by a country mile...

Sure I would welcome any kind of improvement that makes this prime place more pleasant for all kinds of people. Again, why should one subset of people have the right to push out other kinds of people from the main geographical feature in town?

Exactly. By these lofty standards, Pattaya Beach Rd. is nobody's turf... it's everybody's!

How about we leave the ladies on beach road and close down 'BOYS TOWN' that should sort out the men from the BOYS

Boyztown is no different than the other go go sois. Closing down the naughty sois gay and straight, isn't the topic here. The topic is beach road. Why this obsession with the gay thing? Anyway, please take it to the GAY FORUM. If you are seriously proposing closing down the gay sois while leaving open the straight sois, you are going to have a lot of fun explaining yourself there! Thanks.

I think it's your nerve, not mine, to mention something so totally UNRELATED to the topic.

All well and good, but what if thousands of whores were lining the canal roads of Chiang Mai? How would you feel then? How about if they were lined up directly in front of your main business location? Would you like that?

No problem at all. TIT.

Words are cheap. I don't believe you. Or maybe punters are big readers, eh?

Actually many of them are. Thailand has had lots of sexworkers since long before you or I arrived here and lots of family tourists that do not seem bothered for at least the last 20 years. Your crusade is not welcome here.

I know CM well. CM doesn't have this problem. Things are zoned there very effectively. Nice try, but anyone who has been to both cities knows better.

Also, don't be confused or try to twist things. I have said nothing against sex workers doing their thing per se. It's about the blight on Pattaya beach road specifically, and ONLY that.

Why would you want to go there if you don't like it? Are there no other beaches in Thailand? It's hardly the nicest beach you'll ever see.

You know what goes on there so just don't go. Be a bit like me going to vegas and saying there are too many casinos. This is what the place is all about.

I live here. I like living here. And no, this place is not only about that anymore. That is the point.

Chiang Mai has freelancers all over the place. Just take a walk anywhere around Thapae Gate for a start.

It's not the same intensity and Chiang Mai doesn't have the same kind of geographical feature that a BEACH RESORT has. A beach promenade is vital to an urban beach resort. You are stretching the truth and you know it.

The fact is beach ladies are a tourist attraction of their own and add personality to the worst real estate area in Pattaya. Beach/Water around it is putrid so at the end of the day the ladies are probably the only thing the beach promenade have going for it. (besides the trees)

For now, sure. Clean it up, light it, add some architectural features like a permanent stage, add in nightly musical and cultural events and you've got a gem. People who have been to Puerto Vallarta know what I am talking about. None of this would work if the place is still thick with aggressive whores. A peppering, no problem.

^aggressive? Not really, unless you consider a smile/hello aggressive. Just face the facts no one cares who is important - you have major police station and right across the street the ladies ply their trade in front of said police station. If you want to see aggressive, try Jomtien Beach! :whistling:
