Bicycle Shops In Ubon

Is there anywhere I can buy reasonable bikes in Ubon? I am looking for road bikes or touring bikes. I need to buy maybe 6 of them. I am not looking for mountain bikes because of the gears and everything make them hard to maintain. They also make tourists think they can beat the crap out of them. What I am looking for is a good bike (not from china) with comfortable seats, no gears (there are no hills, mountains or slopes here) and maybe can have attachments for baskets or water bottles.

If anybody here knows what an old school Schwinn is that would be about ideal. It is basically what the Chinese bikes copy but they make the chains out of bubble gum and they stretch. If anybody has any info they can share with me I would be grateful even if it isn't in Ubon.

I would prefer the bikes to be what we call in the west a bike for men as the cross bar is higher and as such prevents little kids trying to ride it. I am not trying to be bad to the kids but the kids where I live have pretty much destroyed any bike I have bought in the past.

Thanks.

On the bypass, maybe half a km travelling from the traffic-light junction at highway 23 and heading towards Makro, there's a bike shop, owned by a genuine enthusiast; you will see a bunch of cycles outside. He and his wife are regular bikers, with all the photos on the wall to show it.

I would think that they can help you.

Sorry that the directions are not professional - in England I used to give directions such as "first left after the Shepherd and Dog"!

Elwood's directions are spot on,there is a big red Trek banner outside the shop can't miss it. If you are coming from the Yasothon direction take the small slip road on the left instead of the main dual carriageway.

I'm just visiting Ubon for a few days and am a keen road cyclist so dropped in to visit today. He stocks mostly Trek road bikes with a few other brands as well, has funkier clothing as well. Young guy is the owner, taken over from his father, speaks reasonable English as well. As you would expect everything is Thai sized in the shop, with the biggest road frame 53 cm's.

Worth a look think he may be able to fix you up with what you require.

Best Regards

Mr Conrad

I'll be in the city on Saturday for the monthly Hash run.

If you're interested, we can meet somewhere when shops open, and I'll take you to the already mentioned one, and a few others as well....... :)

That is very kind of you Bergen but I am in the Philippines now and was not able to access the net to reply to your post. I actually live in Laos and would just be going to Ubon to procure supplies.

I appreciate your helpfulness and hope you enjoyed yourself in Ubon.

You're welcome.

I should imagine that if any expat was interested in touring the area, they would be excellent advisors. Those days are over for this old codger though - my power comes from a Honda Wave!
