Howdee fellow visa members, recall a post a while ago about a wannabe adventurer who was considering the trip, and might I say - WHAT A TRIP!! Was speaking to somebody recently who's son drove to India, then an unintended extended trip to Australia, from the uk. Anybody made the trip? Would have to pass through some dangerous terr/borders, to my mind. Any global on-line "route finders", Be interesting to research the route. :o

Think its about driving from the UK to LOS in a motor car....or a van :D

I know people like to do these sort of things .....eurostar>France then road...Europe>turkey>Iran (unless you fancy the weekend in Baghdad)>pakistan>India>Up and over the bumps to Burma>to LOS..then have breakfast at Amazing Sandwiches in Chiang Mai and maybe a beer in the Red Panda....wotsits :o ...but No I would give it a miss.

Prefer the view from 40,000 feet..... :D

This topic is not weird as it sounds there is an Australian company called Overlander based in London who run all wheel drive buses twice a year from London to Singapore, this company was still running when we left UK in1996 dont know if it is still in business,Nignoy

My dad hitch-hiked over land as far as India from the UK then ended up sailing to Darwain then back up thru Malaysia to Thailand

That was about 1967 though.

It's the old hippie trail, more or less. Read Travels with my Aunt by Graham Greene and The Great Railway Bazaar by Paul Theroux, and keep flying. :o

I have two friends who have driven overland from Sweden to Bangladesh.

If you are really intrested you can look at http://www.exodus.co.uk . These people do trips all round the world that involve big lorries converted to carry passangers.

I was offered a job working for them doing the overland trips, they asked me to go and do some travelling round Asia first to get some experience, this is when i met my wife and unfortunately, this job is a single blokes occupation as you are away for months at a time :o so i turned it down. I regret now that i didnt have the experience but then i look at my wife and think <deleted> it if i had taken the job i wouldnt be with my wife now. No contest really :D

I know you can take the train from London to Singapore....

How?

There's a gap from between HCMC and Thailand.

I did London - Hong Kong by train. Not great, the Trans-Sib is pretty tedious.

When did you do it mate? How much did it cost? How long did it take? :o
