Local authorities are rushing to aid to both Thais and Cambodians affected by the fire, and have opened registration to facilitate the process.

The market will be closed for seven days, as officials are

This second round of the 2010 PTT Thailand Open followed the official opening ceremony presided over by the prime minister.

The official launch of the 2010 PTT Thailand Open was held at Impact Arena, Muangthong Thani, with Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva present at the opening ceremony.

Also attending the ceremony were tennis pros Jurgen Melzer, Ernests Gulbus, Danai Udomchoke, as well as the winner of this year's Miss Thailand World beauty pageant, Sirirat Ruangsri.

Following the ceremony was a second-round match between world number 1 Rafael Nadal of Spain and Belgian qualifier Ruben Bemelmans, ranked 195th in the world.

The nine-time Grand Slam winner needed only 71 minutes to beat his opponent in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

The Spaniard will take on Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan in the upcoming quarter-finals.

After the match, Nadal met with Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva in Jupiter Hall at Challenger Exhibition Center.

The two engaged in a brief conversation and then exchanged souvenirs.

The 24-year-old Spaniard gave his autographed racquet and match shirt to the PM.

As for other results, world number 8 and the tournament's second seed, Fernando Verdasco, who received a bye in the first round, was overcome by German Benjamin Becker in a straight-set defeat 6-4, 6-4.

Becker will face countryman Daniel Brands in the last eight.

Moving outside of the stadium, world number 13 Melzer and world number 60 Jarkko Nieminen of Finland enjoyed a taste of Thai boxing, as they had a brief training session with two-time K-One World Max champion Buakhao Por Pramuk, to the great delight of their fans.

Police Admit Little Evidence against Bangkok Bombers

Investigators have admitted that though they have been able to uncover the identity of possible perpetrators of bomb attacks in the capital, a lack of evidence has disabled them from conducting arrests.

Police Adviser Police General Panupong Singhara Na Ayutthaya reported today on progress being made to apprehend Bangkok city bombers.

Panupong indicated that a total of 111 bomb-related incidents have taken place in the capital, admitting that only a handful of arrests have been made.

Nonetheless, investigators have been able to pinpoint three main suspects.

These suspects are the same of those on a list put together by the Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation, or CRES.

The three men, Mongkol Sarapun, Thanadech Ek-apiwat, and Somkiat Saraniam are believed to have ties with the major networks behind most of the bombing incidents. Police believe the three are still hiding in Thailand.

Panupong revealed that police have actually been able to identify the instigators of several incidents, but have not been able to secure arrest warrants due to lack of evidence.

He assured that the establishment of a new center devoted to the matter will remedy the situation.

Metropolitan Police Chief Police Lieutenant General Santhan Chayanon later commented that the recruitment of 49 bomb experts to aid police has been helpful, but noted that while they have started to assist authorities, no bomb attacks have occurred.

On a concert to be held by the red-shirt group this weekend, National Police Chief Police General Wichien Podposri said that no extra precautions would be taken, assuring that standard security procedures will be taken for the event.

Police to Release Picture of Siriraj Bomb Prankster

Investigators are preparing to release the picture of a suspect believed to have made a phone call to 191, threatening a bomb attack at Siriraj Hospital yesterday.

The hospital is where His Majesty the King is staying to recuperate from his illness.

The police chief believes the suspect is mentally ill.

National Police Chief Police General Wichien Podposri said the call was made from a phone booth outside the army-run television station Chanel Five.

The suspect was caught on tape by a surveillance camera and seemed to have a mental disorder.

Wichien said such prank calls are often made to the police emergency line 191.

Senior adviser of the National Police Office Police General Panupong Singhara Na Ayutthaya said the Metropolitan Police Bureau has already assigned agencies under its command to investigate the matter.

Panupong also said footage from a surveillance camera suggested the suspect could have a mental illness.

His picture will be released soon to facilitate a manhunt.

He also cautioned people who are planning to make similar prank calls in the future to 191 that they will face legal action.
