Tourist Visa Questions

Featured Replies

l'm soon going to Thailand for 6 weeks, flying in from Manila,

l have an Australian & a Euro passport, l know l get 30 days free using my Oz passport,

should l go to the Thai embassy in Manila & apply for a 60 day tourist visa?

if so which passport should l use & what would the cost be?

otherwise, if l enter on my Oz passport, what do l do when my 30 days runs out?

THANKS in advance for your advise.

Best is to get a tourist visa, they are free at the moment. If you stay longer than 30 days you need to have a visa, without one the airline can refuse you boarding.

The Ozz passport should be fine.

r u sure they r free?

a friend said they cost $35.

l prefer to use my Euro passport, is their a reason l should use my Ozz passport?

The Thai Embassy in Manila is noted for being less than tourist friendly so I would make it a point to use the passport you were admitted into the Philippines with. The visa should be free.

Tourist Visas are free of charge until March 31st.

It's the Thai consulate in Hobart (yes I know that Hobart is not in the Philippines).

It quotes $45 AUS for the 60 day visa which can be extended to 90 days.

I would recommend that you do get the 60 day visa - then you do not have to worry about anything. If you get a 30 day on arrival - you can only extend by 15 days then you have to leave (1,900 baht to extend)

To save any potential problems, use the same passport that you used in the country that you travel from. (So that immigration can see the exit stamp!)

Enjoy Thailand - it's great here B)

There is no 15 day extension of stay.

Tourist visas are free but some consulates/embassies are charging a processing fee. If you don't have a visa you may find that the airline will refuse to carry you even though you have a return ticket because the ticket does not have a return date within the 30 Day Visa exempt that you will get at the airport here when you arrive. Even if they let you fly you may have a problem with immigration here. If you are refused entry it is the airline's responsibility for letting you fly so they have to arrange for you to fly out. That is why they are liable to refue to let you board a plane to come here in the first place.

Save yourself the potential for hassle, get a visa.

As for which passport to use - if you come in on a flight from Manilla and use a diffeent passport to the one you left on you will not have an exit stamp. The immigration officer here will ask for your boarding card stub to check that you have entered the details of your flight correctly on the immigration card and may start to ask questions.

If one travels from the Uk to Thai and gets 30 Visa exempt.

During the 30 days, travels to Vietnam and onto Laos...eventually coming back into Thai only this time a land crossing at Nong Khai for 15 day entry visa.

If the Thai stay is beyond the 15 days can an extension be purchased at Immigration (NK or Udon) for a short period (poss week ) upto return flight back to UK

Or is another border run necessary?

or would it pay to just get a tourist visa in the Uk before departure.

Thanks

You should get a tourist visa first unless you have air tickets out of Thailand within 30 days. Airline can check closely.

Normally you can obtain up to 7 days extra with payment of 1,900 baht (unapproved extension of stay) and show of ticket out of Thailand.
