New Visa Rules For People Coming To Thailand From Uk

Featured Replies

My friend is in the the UK he is retired and 70, applied for his visa to come back and was told you can no longer specify tourism as the reason for coming here, he has had to prove that he is retired and receiving an income.apparently this is something to do with the Thai authorities not wanting us dossing about!!!! not sure if I have this right but someone on here will I am sure know the full story.

Anyone heard of this?

Moving to visa forum. Will get more response there.

I expect he was trying to obtain a non immigrant visa rather than a tourist visa.

It would appear by looking at the website if he is applying for an O visa then he must complete a standard 'Letter' which would declare his entry as a pensioner and include a copy of his pension statement as below - not good with links so might not work

Do you know the reason behind it? just interested now..

Well from what I have picked up, there have always been directions in place that a traveller holds enough funds to ensure a 'problem free stay', for want of a better description......so I guess this just formalises that requirement. Stops somebody looking to stay a long time without the relevant funding.
