Yes, its possible to get very close to it. They are even running tours every 2 hours. You can get in to see the flight deck and bridge. You will see a little camp set up outside the ship staffed by navy folks.

As for where it is well, I mean, once you drive into the port it is very hard not to see it. Just drive into the port, you will see it on the left hand side. If you cant see it, just get closer to the water.

Asked if I could join without any problems and surprisingly little security. I only had to do was sign my name. The security must have changed though. Here are some pictures as evidence!!

I went there yesterday. I didnt even notice any gate guards. Walked right up to the edge of the boat and saw some folks lining up for a tour. Hi Rumcabal. Can you tell me a bit of your situation at the port ?

I went up yesterday but as the other guy said I could not get past the security gate I was alone and tried to drive through.

When you went up did you have a Thai partner with you ? did you try to drive through ? or did you hide the car and sort of blend in with others who were walking through past the gate ?

When I was there I tried to offer the security my Thai driving license but was told that any person going through the gate Thai or farang who was not crew of the ship had to show Thai identity card. maybe as always this is just TiT.

At that gate, I didnt notice any security guard. At least if there was a guard there he didnt say anything to us. I have a Thai license but never had to show it. Come to think of it security was unbelievably lax. From the sounds of what others are saying it seems that we might have just been lucky on that day.

I did think of doing exactly what you did and park up the road and try to walk in like I was one of the crew coming back from pattaya but after trying to drive in and the guards seeing me it was a waste of time.

The gate in the picture is no where near the aircraft carrier, but if you had actually got near to the correct gate (and could see the ship over on the right) then the Thai guards (with Navy security also) would not of let you into the inner sanctum, plus just inside this gate is Navy security and you are funnelled into this by nearly 100 huge steel containers forming a barrier around the whole ship, plus the ship has guards and officers at each gangplank, so sorry your story is not plausible.

Also the 3 ships left this morning for Japan and refitting.

Are you trying to get a rise out of me? You accuse me of lying, making up a story. Why would I do that exactly? What do I possibly gain from making up a story. I posted pictures that I took with my own camera from on board the ship. Yes, there was 100 huge steel containers, our tour group was escorted around them and onto the ship by our navy guides.

For the tour there was 3 other very friendly navy lads who made sure we didnt stray far from the rest of the group

Off steams George (actually its off to the breakers yard in Taiwan) got onto the ship also,but you had to leave your vehicle at the last check point and walk a couple of hundred yards,no one was interested in security,even strolled around the flight deck until told to wait for a guide.

Anyway off steams the Pacific 6th fleet crewed by the oddest 5500 bunch I have ever set eyes on,seems as Homeland Defense has gone around KY Fl Mi and other hick states getting all the whacked out specimens it could find in the US navy ,never famed for multi tasking the US crewman has only to push a button flick a switch as far as I could see

The captain and first officer will be the future coolies of the Hang Seng Dynasty ,shark fin soup a welcome feast for them,the other non descript tossers will be counting their Baht as the Dollar becomes parity with the Baht,hoping for a muffti party sometime next year.

Battle honours of the Pacific Fleet include Bull Run Little Big Horn and of course Alamein (and anything else that can be thought of).
