PM touches the sky

Thai TV audiences were stunned yesterday when the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games football match between Thailand and hosts Vietnam was interrupted by a Thai Rak Thai advertisement on Channel 11, which featured the beaming face of the prime minister seemingly floating over the arena where the game was being played.

A computer-generated blimp bearing the face of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra could be seen floating above a banner bearing Thai Rak Thai polices and sponsors banners.

TV audiences said this might make people aware of the government’s ideas, but at the same time it was annoying.

The Public Relations Department deputy director-general Pramoj Rathavinij said that it was the department’s duty to use technology to publicise, promote and clarify it’s principles and that this would grab the attention of the people.
