Suspected drug hitmen kidnap 22 Mexican tourists in Acapulco

MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) -- Suspected drug hitmen kidnapped 22 Mexican tourists in the port city of Acapulco, officials in the southern state of Guerrero said on Saturday.

Officials with the the prosecutor's office said the group arrived from neighboring state of Michoacan and was abducted on Thursday around 4:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. EST).

According to witnesses, the armed group took four cars where the group had been traveling. However, the cars where found on Saturday parked few blocks away.

A man who reported the mass kidnapping said all the missing worked for an auto-mechanic company in Morelia, the state capital of Michoacan. The man said the group arrived for a weekend vacation.

The resort has seen drug-related violence in recent days. A gunfight between drug gangs left seven killed on September 24.
