Your in luck because there are loads of thread about this here too. It's easy. Do it.

Depends on the finance company. Some will let you after a certain amount of payments have been made, some won't. Ask them.

It is 800B for big bikes, so expect a bit more for a car. At Sadao crossing go to shophosues on right side just over boarder for insurance. They will also give you roman letter translation for your car.

How long will it take to drive down from BKK

Depends on a lot of things. Probably 14+ hours. Check Mapquest.

Safe or not?

Completely safe

4 to 41 back to 4 to Sadao crossing. Just keep going south. Hard to mess that one up.

I have heard this too. Tint is illegal there, but I saw it on a lot of Thai plated cars. They say you just keep your windows rolled down as you go through the boarder until after you clear the ICC building and the checkpoint just after it.

Completely safe

Safe is a matter of perspective.

Driving to Malaysia is perfectly safe, the perspective we should have is of course that we are in Thailand and we should therefore adapt and take into consideration what is the norm in Thailand, if we do that, then it's perfectly safe.

I just drove back from Phuket with the family, came back Sunday morning after an uneventful and very safe trip

Tint to the level Thais - and westerners living in Thailand copying Thais have - is considered dangerous and illegal in most of the developed world. You can probably get away with keeping windows down while you drive through the border unless you also have excessive tint also on your front window. Penalties for breaking the law is high in Malaysia, compared to Thailand very high, but you should be perfectly OK as long as you pay if you get caught

I drove to Malaysia once in the mid 90s', it's a long way, I'd say 15 - 16 hours drive

Safe or not?

Completely safe

Well my perspective, from a hotel in Malaysia which I drove to in a truck over the last tow days...it was very safe.

My personal opinion - Driving in Thailand can be a very safe experience, but it can never be as relaxed because concentration / background concentration must always be pretty high

Just drove to Phuket and back again with the family, very safe :)
