More than 100 arrested in Spain on child pornography charges

2010-10-09 00:55:45 GMT+7 (ICT)

MADRID (BNO NEWS) -- Over a hundred people were arrested and charged in one of the biggest operations in recent years against child pornography producers and distributors in Spain, authorities said on Friday.

The operation, carried out by 400 officers in several Spanish provinces, resulted in the arrest of a total of 104 suspected pedophiles, according to the National Police.

Among those arrested is a producer of pornographic material involving children. Police say he worked as a gardener and recorded two children of seven and fourteen years of age having sexual intercourse. He also had videos stored on his computer showing children engaging in sex.

In addition to the child porn producers, those arrested include engineers, businessmen, students, unemployed, local police, gardeners and plumbers.

Police seized 328 hard drives, 40 laptops, 21 desk computers, hundreds of DVDs and CDs, 13 flash drives and eight memory cards during the operation.

The police operation was made possible by using a new software called NordicMule, developed by the National Criminal Investigation Service of Norway.
