Hi,

I would like to know if it's possible to transfer a work permit to another employer and what needs to be done for it?

Thank you very much for your help and advice,

Best regards,

Stephen

My initial answer would be no, since your original employer is sponsoring your work permit on their companies documentation. Why can't the other employer get you another work permit?

In theroy it can be done but depends on the co-operation between the two companies, timing and in most cases the existing WP and "new" WP are issued from the same labour office.

In my experience its far easier, starting over...ie new application, new non-imm B etc

Company "A" will not cooperate with company "B", but the company "B" can apply for a new a work permit and it is not a problem. I was thinking about it if this can be easier and quicker. In any cases, can I keep my Non B visa from the company "A" and apply to a work permit with the company "B" as I don't really want to start the process to get a Non B visa again?

Thank you,

Thank you,

If company A & B will not co-operate, then you are basically stuffed

Are you on extension of stay ??

Let me assure you in the above circumstances starting over will be easier.....A new non-imm B is easy if your paper work is straight...over night in singapore or similar, pick up your PP next day

Yes I am on an extension of stay but I read in another topic that I opened weeks ago that on an extension of stay I could get a new job. Bellow was one answer of the previous topic I opened :

You are on a 1 year extension of stay, meaning losing your job means that you have to leave Thailand the same day. But you can get a 7 day extension of stay from immigration.

If you manage to get a new job in these 7 days and a work permit, you can apply for a new extension of stay. Short time, so start looking now. Might be better to get a tourist visa from abroad.

If married to a Thai national, you can get an extension for 60 days instead of 7."

Thank you all for your answers.

Following your advice I will go to see the labor department as my visa still valid. If not possible, I will go to Vientiane or another country to apply for a new Non B visa.

If you start work for a second company in the same area, then you can add a new work place/company to your Work Permit at Labour using form WP7; the rub is that this form would have to come from and be signed by your current employer.

As you say that you do not have a good relationship with your existing employer then this is a non starter.

Also every time you do any thing with labour/immigration you require full sets of paperwork from both companies, plus you need to remain on the books of both as well.

Finally there is no procedure to remove the first employer from the work permit leaving only the second one in place.

As already advised in this thread, in your case it is much simpler to start afresh .

I got a non-imm B when I came to Thailand and have changed employers since. No need to get a new non-imm B. Your textension of stay will be cancelled when you bring the letter from your former employer on your last day of work. You can apply for an extension of stay for another 7 days, during which you have to apply for the new work permit. However, if you have all docs complete already (recommended), you can apply right away, on the same day.

When you apply for the new work permit, you get an extension of stay for a short period of time saying that you are still "under consideration". Maybe they give you only 14 days, maybe they give you a month or two. You can extend that as long as your work permit application is under consideration - i.e. until it is approved or rejected.

Appying for a new work permit should be easier than changing the existing WP to a new employer.
