badgerbailey
I was recently reading an article, that spoke about captain Francis Light, the founder of Penang. In the article it mentions a story about the two heroines of Phuket, Khun Thepkrasatri and Khun Srisoonthorn. It mentions that he warned them that the Burmese were coming to invade and he sent message ashore and this is how they knew to dress like men and scare off the Burmese. I got talking to quite a few Thais about this matter, and they are all told of the Heroines story when they are at school but they are never taught that a British man named captain Francis Light came ashore and informed them that they were about to be invaded. Why do you think this is? Why would they not teach this important piece of history?
fantuzi
It happens always, even today. It is funny,if you take texbooks from few countries from same region and compare them, what they teach their children. Generally - they teach different stories. Look on the history of WWII only.So many "Francis Lights". we are only humans.
