Jakarta to launch investigation after Taiwan bans the sale of Indonesian instant noodle

JAKARTA (BNO NEWS) -- The Indonesian House of Representatives is set to launch an investigation after Taiwan banned the sales of an Indonesian instant noodle because it allegedly has banned preservatives, local media reported on Tuesday.

The Indomie noodles, produced and exported by food giant Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur, and consumed widely in Indonesia, were banned on Friday in Taiwan after the Taiwan Health Department's Food Security Bureau found methyl p-hydroxybenzoate and benzoic acid in them, both banned substances for food products.

Indomie's importer in Taiwan, Fok Hing Trading, denied the Taiwanese government findings and said the noodles have met food security standards in Hong Kong and the World Health Organization.

According to the Commission on Health of the Indonesian House of Representatives, lawmakers would ask clarification from the Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency if it's found that the noodle contain banned substances.

Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur has said that the noodles could have entered the market via unofficial suppliers.
