Lumpini police are being investigated for alleged dereliction of duty....

Wow, you guys are killing me now.... Soooooo I guess now the government will have to get rid of the entire Thai police force if dereliction of duty has now become a chargeable crime !!!

I think the farang response to this type of " crackdown" is most likely in direct porportion to the length of time here. If you had spent one month in Thailand and saw this story, you might think this kind of news is great, that the police are actually doing policing. If you have been here a long time, and see this kind of story over and over, the cynic part kicks in, where you wonder about the flow of money. Thailand is not mysterious in the least, the adage of following the money works absolutely perfectly here.

And by the way, all these street vendors pay money directly to the police in order to set up stalls on the sidewalk. The money is not going to a government agency. This also applies to the 2 kilometer open bar that Sukumvit becomes at night. This money is also paid directly to the police. So the reason for foot dragging by the police in regards to these vendors becomes crystal clear....

That only  3 people were arrested after reports here that Suk was awash with CP surprises me. Must be a very effective grapevine operating there. That cops from outside were brought in must mean at least one Colonel taking up an inactive post. Expect his replacement to announce a crack down on everything - and then start raking it in.

Hi RugbyPaul2. May I ask, who did you report it too? Were you given a copy of the police report with your and their signature? If you had the report or, if the police representative who refused to accept it did not give you one, you had the name of the police representative, you could march straight to the public prosecutor and file criminal charges directly with them.

The public prosecutor is full of 30-35 year old future judges, with the right minerals to make their name out of a case like this. They will absolutely follow up on your complaint, and make a point of doing so before any of the other prosecutors in their office get a chance.

You're the third person I've given this advice to, but I don't think anyone so far has filed a complaint as they're worried about repercussions; even if, during the hearing, your anonymous statement would be a witness, not you.

How can a police report with your signature be anonymous? Or criminal charges naming a police officer who refuses to accept a report? Or is it OK to file charges using a false name in Thailand? and a false address....

A statement to the public prosecutor cannot be anonymous, but it can be made with formal anonymity, especially under Section 162 clause 3 (omitting to record a matter which the official has the duty to record). A statement to the police cannot be made with anonymity - but, if the policeman takes the statement, they are legally bound to follow it through with the public prosecutor. No address is required when filing a report with the police or public prosecutor.

So WHY Lumphini? I thought I read it was Sukhumvit where the cp cds were spotted? But Lumpini District is Silom Patong Road....i am confused?

Will they check Sukhumvit too or just call the BiB in charge and tell him he have to be more carefull with HIS shop vendors and what <deleted> they sale in a Tourist area? (at least for a month or two :annoyed: )

Shame on Thailand. If UNICEF doesnt send a complaint this will going on forever - money rules, doesnt matter how dirty it is. :bah:

Lumphini police station being the one with 50 or so road prostitutes directly outside it every night.

The Royal Thai Police do seem to suffer from eyesight problems. :D

A few years ago that the Chief of Bangkok Police declared that there were no brothels in the city.

It was pointed out that he only had to go 50m from the front of his office building to find one.............. :whistling:

I had the pleasure (not) of waiting in Lumpini police station to fill in the details of a traffic accident a few years ago.

Whilst waiting to have my statement taken I was surprised by the youngish (maybe 25) desk clerk, who had more gold rings with rubies, Rolex, amulets and chains than Don king could contemplate, was ordering a new Mercedes Benz over the phone.

Must be paid well at Lumpini station.

Not all policemen come from poor families.

There is probably a "fast track" for the able and/or well connected

as in many western countries.

Sukhumvit is a long road covered by 3 police stations over the stretch from Ploenchit to Bangna.

Well fuc_k me. I swear the same shit is selling at my local Tesco Lotus (Tesco Bangkhae). I mean like... fuc_king TESCO??? How do they get away with this shit? And who would have the NERVE to actually pick up this shit at one of these stalls -- out there in the open, not tucked away in a corner, mind you -- who would have the gall to make a purchase (let alone sell this stuff) in a society where it's generally shunned?

Right, gotta get back to downloading free porn off the PirateBay now.

A few of the bars along the 2km you refure to are owned by police and run by their mianoys or atleast thats how it was a few years ago and i dont expect this has changed,

The street vendors having to pay money directly to the police is something i,m told goes on in most areas and i did,nt expect anything less from these criminals in uniform,

Thailand is a Buddhist country. The police seems to forget.

The only thing some of the Thai police forget is what they are in the job for.

Police work should not be about lining the pocket of yourself and others at the expense of what is right.

The only thing the Thai police are in the job for.

Police lining the pocket of self and others at the expense of what is right

(if an infinite amt of monkeys typed an infinite amt of words... the truth would out)

They START their 'career' by bribing to become recruit! They know what 'in it for'

Maybe, that's due to her being a foreign male to have a giggle?

I wish there was a valid source of English news in Thailand. The Bangkok Post seems to be the only one on this story and each article and the source reporter appear a bit odd. The good thing though, regardless of their motives, is this story is getting out there.

"One" of the things I find odd is that the story states these people were arrested for selling child porn but when you go to the story and view the picture and the captions below it ... it shows Adult Porn covers spread out on the table and says they were arrested for selling illegal porn which to my understanding is ALL porn in Thailand.

I also find it interesting you can have 30 officers, including many in plainclothes, only raid 3 stalls when porn is sold openly by MANY vendors and it seems to be widely known you simply need to ask vendors for the child porn (not kept at the stall) and most will sell it. I have nothing against Adult porn but it is illegal to sell in Thailand and I doubt very much the vast majority openly breaking the law selling it would not stoop to selling the child porn.

And I am curious ... who are the The Metropolitan Police Division 5? Anybody know?

Having a police unit that can so openly and without leaks go into another jurisdiction seems to be a little too good of a policy and idea for Bangkok given its corruption in the ranks.

But again, Bravo for the crack down and awareness about Child Porn being sold, even if the motives and reliability of the Post is in doubt and police may still be selectively targeting certain vendors.

Yes, I don't believe Thaksin was ever out directing traffic as a policeman. wink.gif

Here we go again. Why the denial???!??? It is truly bizarre.

Jing you really either have a tendency to see and believe whatever you want to see and believe OR you need to get your eyes checked OR brush up on your reading comprehension. Unless you wish to take things out of complete context ... I am missing anywhere that is denial. Yet, I do see questions being asked about what we know to be a largely corrupt police department as well as what we know to be a source of bad reporting. Please stop with either the baiting or just bad comprehension ... it is getting old.

I thought the actual raid was bogus.

They arrested 1 Thai woman and 2 Burmese men.

No other Thais arrested ? Are the Sukhumvit stalls all run by the Burmese now ?

Jeez...

Of course. Every crime committed in Thailand is done by a Burmese or Falang. Did you forget that.

Now where is the sarcastic smiley.

I have to keep asking were is the child porn. I have been visiting Suk for years yes have seen regular porn but never child porn and many other have post a similar response. Was this just a over the top news story cooking up trouble or was it valid.

It has been confirmed. Individuals I know through other places online has also verified it by going there and investigating and writing a report. So...

I have to say I have never seen it openly displayed either, in years of buying pirated stuff from these guys on Suk, but have always heard it is available if one asks. Lots of Adult porn but never seen the kid stuff. I thought maybe it was a new thing since I have not been there in months but then checked and see the BKK Post has run with this story in the past. However, on another thread, there were a number of people saying it is not only openly displayed but shoved in the faces of passing tourists, by the vendors, including when they are with their family.

Bottom line, the more they drive this underground the better ... the whole supply and demand thing. Less availability means higher prices, less sales and less need for new material and the abuse of more children.

Thailand has got Buddhists. The police seems to forget how low their salary is. Guess most male cops do have pornographic Cd's or photos at home or even in their office.

Or what about the Thai police officer who had sex with a nine year old? :jap:

Its great that this is getting out into the open and something is being done. We are finally getting the names of some of the child rights agencies like Unicef, UN Childrens fund and Action Pour Les Enfants. If this comes back in a few weeks we can call up some of these agencies or/and bring it up here again and push to have it removed. Perhaps we can make a difference.

That's the "claim" i.e. Thailand is a Buddhist country. I really don't see hoards of Thai people following the teachings however. I wish they did. Frankly it might be just more "lip service" like "crack downs" etc. The teachings of the Buddha and Chuang Tzu could really alter the way Thailand behaves if only it was in peoples' heart and not their head.

I have lived in BKK for just a short while 2 years and nothing surprises me anymore, I was sick of being approached to buy cp in Suk rd so I went to Asoke police and complained, this is what I was told, I could NOT make a report unless I bought, veiwed and made sure it was actually CP as usual I walked away with my normal <deleted> expression, who in their right mind would buy, view then report to the cops in Thailand, call me cynical but I think WE all know what happens in LOS and its getting worse day by day..

It's illegal here to make a false police report. So they tied you up in knots.

They wouldn't take action & if you took action, said CP would disappear and you'd face a potential criminal charge.

Buddism is the teaching of "embracing".

But cynicism aside, I didnt realise how corrupt Thai/Thailand is.

I dont understand why countries like Japan, US, Europeans want to invest here. Is it because of "it"?
