Hi

I will be applying for a settlement visa for my Wife next month, I am putting together her application but want it to be checked, before I hand it in. I don't have the money/not paying for the 40000 baht that I have been quoted by 2 agencies.

I was married to a Thai before and got she her visa on the application I made but that was over ten years ago now, we went to a women who checked all the documents that was near the British Embassy but last time I saw all these places had been demolished. She charged me 3000 Baht but that was 10 years ago.

Would appreciate any suggestions or help on who can check for us in Bangkok. Do you think the agencys that quoted me 40000 baht will do a checking service?

Thanks guys....

I used Siam Legal in Bangkok, they charged less than 40000 and did everything for me, so the agencies you have tried are overpriced in my opinion. I would suggest trying a reputable company like Siam Legal and see what they can do for you

Sorry I cannot be more help

surely they would not charge that just for checking?

Sorry just thought it would be worth trying to see if they did a checking service too

There is no application checking service as such. When submitting the application the Visa Application Centre will advise whether or not the application is complete, and allow you, or rather your wife, to withdraw it without paying the fee if it is not.

However, they cannot say whether the evidence shows that she qualifies for her visa or not; the decision is not theirs to make.

The same with using a commercial agent to 'check' the application. They will charge you a fee for this, and the quality of any advice they give you will vary from excellent to diabolical; depending on the agent! Even if they are competent, they cannot guarantee the result nor influence the embassy in any way.

If you do decide to use an agent, I suggest that you read this topic first.

As the topic suggested by 7by7 is now closed let me add that i too went to 3 different visa companies and asked if they could check it for me ,. the answers ranged from an outright "no' to "sorry we only do complete applications ' and one sucked in air like a uk builder asked to finish off someone elses wall !....in my opinion and my experience they are a bunch of vultures.,..and offered no help whatsoever,..if you are a genuine case you will get the visa, even if there is the odd mistake,,hence one of the questions on the application is "have you used a visa service to asist you '..if you are illiterate, met a bar girl 2 weeks ago and want a visa go ahead, use their services, find one that does "no visa no fee" ,,and pay when its issued, ,.let me know how it went

28,000 to help put a settlement application together? Its robbery, you could do it all yourself in a day and essentially, you have to provide the same info to the 'Agent'.

Do it yourself, . My mate checked mine in 2 hours and his only exp was that he had been through the process before.

Do it yourself, its a peice of piss. My mate checked mine in 2 hours and his only exp was that he had been through the process before.

Not sure about doing it in a day but if you take your time, and do a bit of research on the internet you should be fine.

I gave my mrs a list of must have docs, she spent a day in a uni library photocopying and indexing. I spent the day editing letters from me, her and other referees and putting together a contents/appendix. So yeh, you are right effectively 2 days in man/yingdays.

Anyway, good luck

As already said, for most people the information provided on the various websites by the UKBA is sufficient. However, if one feels the need for an agent that is up to them, my only advice would be to read this topic first.

It is up to the individual whether to take the advice of an agent or that of a poster on a forum such as this; whether such advice is provided in the open forum or by PM (where no one else can see and comment on it!).
