Hi All

An Aussie friend of mine is a tennis player training at a well known Thai Tennis Academy. He is only 19 years old and has virtually no travel experience or realted know-how (his trip here to BKK is his first trip out of Oz). He arrived with a tourist visa back at start of August and then did a visa run to Cambodia a few weeks back to get another tourist visa, as he wants to stay until December 2nd (he has his air-ticket back to Oz).

He now needs to travel to Laos to play a Mens Futures level pro tournament, leaving on 28th Oct (this Thursday). He will go by bus. I told him I believe that when he crosses into Laos his Thai tourist visa will finish and in order to come back in after the tournamant, and stay until December 2nd, he will need to get another tourist visa at the Thai embassy in Vientiane (if they will give him one).

One of the Thai tennis coaches at the Tennis Academy apparently made some calls this morning and told him that he can get a "reentry permit" at Thai Immigration in BKK to come back into Thailand. So, my friend thinks he can go to Immigration at Chaeng Wattana Rd tomorrow to do this. However, today is a public holiday so I asked to whom the coach spoke and he said immigration at Nong Khai !!

As far as I know there is no such thing as a reentry permit/visa for someone here on a tourist visa (unless you originally purchased a double entry - which he didn't).

Can anyone confirm?

If I'm correct, then is it likely that the Thai embassy at Vientiane will give him a third, back to back , tourist visa (even if he shows his return air ticket back to Australia)?

Many Thnx

A re-entry permit, single entry, costing 1,000 baht can be obtained to keep his current permitted to stay date.

He should also be able to obtain a new tourist visa in Vientiane if he has the time to do so.

Why depend on Tourist visa.... If you stay in Thailand long time, get yourself a ED VISA. That will allow you to stay in Thailand upto 10 years, no need to leave the country every time and no need to have a sum of money on a bank account. More questions, send me PM.
