Bomb Scare a False Alarm on Highway

Thai security officials have been on high alert after a suspicious package was found in the middle of an inter city highway.

The bomb scare was later found to be a gadget from a missing car.

A team of local police in eastern Chachoengsao Province rushed to the section of Thailand’s eastbound Motorway Route 7 in Bangpakong district, following a report of a suspected bomb.

Officials temporarily sealed off the area, where a suspicious package was found, before a bomb squad arrived to inspect the item in question.

Bomb experts then used a high pressure water gun to disable the suspected bomb.

However, it was found later that the bomb scare was merely a black box, carrying batteries, a mobile phone handset and electrical tape.

Experts said that the materials found in the box could be parts of a car gadget, accidentally dropped by a passing vehicle.

Authorities Hunts for Injured Bomber in Narathiwat

The Narathiwat Provincial Police are conducting a manhunt for the bomber injured by his own explosive device during the attacks that took place in many areas of the province.

Commander of the Narathiwat Provincial Police Bureau, Police Major-General Chaithat Intanujit has reported that a new type of explosive device was used in the bomb attacks that took place in many areas within the province.

The date coincided with the 6th anniversary of the Tak Bai incident.

According to the authorities, personal land mine type devices were buried in rubber plantations and were triggered by victims who stepped on them.

The investigation team has assumed that a bomber was accidentally injured by the device as a severed leg was found inside a rubber plantation in Chanae district in the province.

The security force has traced the blood trail to a nearby river and has already ordered for the police in the area to investigate whether any medical facilities admitted a patient with a similar injury or if a body was buried in any cemeteries in the area.

However, no progress has been made on the investigation yet.

Meanwhile, the authorities have ordered for security to be stepped up in populated areas, especially in the city and Buddhist communities, after having received reports regarding more attacks being planned.

Also, a similar type of device was detonated, injuring a rubber planter in Ruso district in Narathiwat province.

The victim has been taken to a nearby hospital.

At the scene, the police discovered a 50 centimeters wide and 10 centimeters deep hole surrounded by shrapnel.

The police collected the device mechanism for the investigation.

Suvarnabhumi Airport not to be under water : Anirut

The country's main international airport will not be affected by floods as it has been installed and activated flood prevention measures, Airport Director Anirut Thanomkulbutra said Wednesday.

Anirut mapped out precautionary measures by discussing plans with communities located near the Suvarnabhumi Airport as well as related agencies including the Royal Irrigation Department.

He said he is confident that the airport would not be affected by flooding as the airport currently has 23.5 kilometres of 3.5-metre-high flood prevention embankments surrounding it, and a water retention area with an extensive storage capacity, and an efficient drainage system, he told Thai News Agency.

Water pumps with capacity to drain one million cubic metres of water per day, have been installed to the East and West of the airport.

In addition, the workers are on high alert and continue monitoring the water level in the area as well as keeping it below 1.40 metres above median sea level.

However, Anirut gave assurances the measures in place will not cause flooding in the communities. The water level surrounding the airport was set not to be over 80 centimetres deep.
