One-two-go Adding Two Local Destinations

One-Two-Go adding two local destinations

BANGKOK: -- After a lull in expansion triggered by lower-than-expected growth in domestic traffic and increased competition, the budget airline One-Two-Go is preparing to add two new routes to its network with daily flights from Bangkok to Surat Thani and Ubon Ratchathani.

The scheduled services are to begin Aug 12. The airline has yet to announce the type of aircraft it will use on the segments, but it is most likely to be a medium-sized jetliner currently under lease negotiations, according to industry sources.

Surat Thani and Ubon Ratchathani are the first new routes introduced by One-Two-Go, an arm of privately owned Orient Thai Airlines, in more than a year, since it began consolidating its operations by focusing on four destinations _ Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hat Yai and Phuket.

Its service from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani was ``temporarily suspended'' in July last year, only a few months after it was launched, because of insufficient traffic demand.

One-Two-Go is offering an all-inclusive introductory fare of 1,649 baht for a one-way flight on the Bangkok-Surat Thani route and 1,249 baht for a one-way flight on the Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani route until Sept 30.

Other domestic flights planned by One-Two-Go have yet to be launched. They include services from Bangkok to Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen and Nakhon Phanom.

Like its domestic rivals in the budget market, Nok Air and Thai AirAsia, the discount carrier has felt the heat of oversupply, stiff competition and soaring fuel costs and thus has become increasingly reluctant to expand its network.

One-Two-Go said that it carried a total of 1.5 million passengers in 2004, its first full year of operation.

Next Monday, the airline is expected to announce a new distribution channel, the introduction of refill payment cards, new ticket payment outlets and the addition of new aircraft to its fleet, as well as an increase in flight frequencies.

At the same time, chief executive Udom Tantiprasongchai has scheduled a briefing to outline the company's longer-term business plan.

Yet two more cities that won't be 'served.' Yet to announce the type of aircraft it will use?????

Yet to act like a real viable airline! :D:o

From their website, looks like they can choose between their lone 757 or a few 747's. Should be a fun landing at those two airports and the fields beyond them.

:o

4 MD-80s from Continental have been bought. 3 of them were at U-Tapau recently. They will be servicing the new routes.

Oh they do have more than a lone 757 - though the others may be on static display (or you better hope they are on static display only!). :o
