Thai People " Perceive Themselves As The Most Intolerant Society In The World"

Japanese are much better at being intolerant with outsiders (and with each other) than the Thais are.

"Gaijin"!

But it's also a term for "stranger" not "a friend", it's much more subtle in jap.Culture, the first portugese and english arrivals where called nanbanjin "southern barbarians" or ikokujin "different country person" or ihōjin "different motherland people"!

Here it's "Farang" for all caucasians, end of the story!

I still wonder from time to time who told "them" that they are so "superior", or can anyone tell what it is, that makes them so superior...?

I guess what makes "them" think they are so superior is the same thing that makes most races and nationalities believe in their own superiority.

Funny thing is, lately my posts have been rather negative about Thailand. Here I'll stick up for the Thais to some extent. While I don't think they should get any awards in terms of tolerance, neither do I think they are -- overall -- an intolerant society. About average. Perhaps slightly above the average. In fact, I think internally they may be less tolerant than they appear to be...because they have manners and are courteous.

Not in the queue in 7-11 they're not!!!

Ah, that's because when you're all facing in one direction, there's no need to look anyone in the eye.

I have lived among Thais for a while now and I have found them to be very excepting people ( at least towards me) and all of my family and friends,

every where I go,they treat me like family.

they are not more or less intolerant than most of the people in this world.

I guess you just contradicted yourself;

If you are going to try to psuedo-intellectualize please learn to spell correctly

Remember it is just an opinion at a particular time

some of as have a life. and jobs, and dont have much time to devote in the correct spelling, of their replies, others might not be native to the English language.

But if the only argument against my reply, is my spelling of a particular word or my use of the English language.........

Need I say more?

If you would look at my posts or replies you will find all of them to be either, answers to questions that I feel I might able to offer some assistance, or replies to posts that, always have the same Theme. " why are Thais so________ . insert your negative statement here"

I have traveled the world, and nowhere have I found people more wonderful than the Thai people.I am eternally grateful to them for allowing me to find a home in their wonderful country.

in my opinion It is bad form to criticize your host, to say the least, If you dont like their hospitality, no one is stopping you from leaving.

I teach high school, and many Kathooies and they have few problems

but same can not be said about the west. In most American towns these poor kids would get beat up most every day

I agree with you. Wanna learn a bit of Latin? Illigittimmi non carborundum. Don't let the bastards get you down.

As to the issue at hand, I find Thais more tolerant than most and I've lived in seven countries. I'm beginning to suspect that this tolerance or intolerance is based on a lack of empaty, something more prevalent in the East than in the West.
