Driving Into Malaysia

Featured Replies

Anyone with recent experience driving down south, over the border and into Malaysia in a Thai registered car? Apart from the purple book are there any extra insurance requirements like the Lao authorities enforce?

Also, I may be picking up some furniture down there, namely a Stressless recliner (can't be had in LOS) so what's Thai Customs going to be like coming back?

Thanks,

NL

This was our experience

You won't need the purple international book you use to travel to Laos, rather a separate letter issued by the DLT. Dead easy to get.

As for bringing stuff back, we loaded our car up with IKEA products from KL. No furniture, but if you have Thai plates, customs just waves you through on the way back.

Ikea...? Wow now that is a good idea!!!
